View Full Version : Would This Look Too Funky?

I recently reworked my 12.5"er. Had the FSB shaved down and a DD M4 Lite rail installed. I reall like a front flip up BUS. I like having the FS out of the way, and having the optic lower. Had the work done by ADCO/ Did great work, and fast, too!

So, I currently have a 10.5"er (LMT 10.5" Upper) with full FSB, and an Aimpoint Miocro mounted high (lower 1/3) co-witness. I like what I did with my 12.5", I'd like to do it on my 10.5" too.

On the 10.5"er, keeping it light and manuverable is the name of the game. In that respect, I'm thinking of getting a 7" / Carbine length DD lite /M4 Lite rail and having the FSB shaved down (to get it out of the way) and leave it, eventhough it is not covered by the 7" Carbine rail (would need a 9" for that). The two inches off the 9" rail will save a few ounces, and every ounce counts! The 7" is more than enough room for anything I may want to mount. I'm wondering if it would look too odd with the shaved (and reparked) uncovered. Looks ain't everything but for all the $ involved it should look good too. I would slap a Troy BUFS on the end of the rail (to go with the rear Troy I've got). So What do you think?

Do you think the front BUIS will weigh less than the part of the FSB that gets chopped off? I don't know for sure....but I would guess not. You could always get a FSB/flip sight instead.

they can be had a little cheaper on ebay, maybe gunbroker.

All good suggestions. However, I've had bad experiences w/ clamp on front sights and won't do it again. :(

I wouldn't chop the FSB. I'd use a 9.5 FSP rail from DD.

I'd really prefer to have the FS out of the way/folded. But, I'll only go with a FS or FSB if it is pinned.

why? what is it with people lately and this notion that it's "in the way"?

I don't understand this either. It seems like this has gotten popular lately, especially with the Aimpoint Micros.

I OTOH have mine set up to absolute co-witness.

I had a feeling this thread was headed this way. Just a bit too much.

 Aw crap. I don't want this to be a co-witness vs. lower 1/3 thread or a folding FS vs. Fixed FSB thread. So I prefer one over the other. I don't see why this should light anyone's panties on fire. Let's call this one done. Thanks for the input everyone.
