Thanks for reminding me of that one. The first time the wife and I watched Taking Chance, nether one of us could hold back some tears.
Good lists, but I can hear Templar yelling "Steiner!"

Can I add "Three Kings" for comic relief :)
I would have to add The Hurt Locker and The Great Raid.
Not movies, but Miniseries:
Band of Brothers and Generation Kill.

Sure.
Although I wouldn't call it a "Great" war flick, it was entertaining.
My personal favourites:
Glory
Tears of the Sun
X2:cool::D
Where would JarHead rank in this list?
They've already been mentioned.
Saving Private Ryan, best movie ever. I can't stand the light recoil of the blanks fired from the M1's.
Band of Brothers, a 10 hour Saving Private Ryan. Seeing those old WWII Vets recalling their real life experiences brought me to tears. Tell anyone and I'll kick your ass.
Platoon.
FULL METAL JACKET. I memorized the entire opening sequence of GSGT R. Lee Ermey (GSGT Hartman) greeting the recruits at Paris Island. "Bullshit! I can't hear you, sound off like you got a pair!" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t8Nf1MK7lts
The Boys In Company C
As a kid, my favorite TV shows were "Tour of Duty" (loved Zeke's CAR15) and "The Black Sheep Squadron". I love the F4U Corsair.
Seriously??? (LMFAO!):p
Man, I was six when it came out. It was good back then and it has Clint Eastwood:rolleyes:
Can't believe no one has mentioned Hamburger Hill
84 Charlie Mopec low budget but a good flic about LRRPs.
Hell is for Heroes classic Steve Mqueen but gritier than your usual B/W.
Letter's From Iwo Jima
A Bridge to Far at one time the most expensive movie ever made.
Stalingrad A German film, same producers as Das Boot
My Alltime list is
BlackHawk Down
Saving Private Ryan
Full Metal Jacket
BraveHeart
The Thin Red Line
Das Boot
Band of Brothers
Paths of Glory
snip...Saving Private Ryan...snip
I went to high school with Jeremy (Davies) Boring who played Upham in the movie.
He was a scrawny little shit and I just can't see him in a movie without remembering him in high school.
Kind of messes things up in his movies, like Twister.
But I did like the movie.
Oh--forgot one from my list.
The Odd Angry Shot. Hard to find that one, but worth seeing.

300
Kelly's Heroes
Cross of Iron http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0074695/
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V-u24EjzD-Y
I stumbled across it one night in the 80's on showtime. Told from the point of view of the Germans fighting the Russians.
Enemy at the Gates
Bravo Two Zero(I think it was listed above, but it was a good flix)
Best ones most people have never seen.
Savior (1998) - One of the best films showing the harshness and severity of war as well as the factors that cause war.
When Trumpets Fade (1998) - An excellent film that ushered in a new reality based depiction of war. Would have been completely groundbreaking were it not eclipsed by "Saving Private Ryan" an a manner ironically similar to how the Hurtgen Forest was eclipsed by the Battle of the Bulge.
Shot Through The Heart (1998) - A well made film similar to Savior in some respects. Demonstrates exactly how war can happen, even in places where "it can't happen here" and to people who believe "it won't happen to us."
Hiroshima (1995) - Told from both sides like Tora, Tora, Tora this one is almost as good as that film with the same excellent adherence to history and detail concerning the end of the war.
Downfall (2004) - Simply the best "Hitler and the bunker" film ever made. A refreshingly honest portrayal of both the good, the bad and the truly monstrous.
Seriously??? (LMFAO!):p
It had a certain charm. Not sure I'd call it one of the best, but it was enjoyable.

Only one left that I can think of is Pearl Harbor

Far from the greatest, but a film I also enjoy is "Dead Presidents".
Interesting little film. Violent. Definitely not a glamorous portrayal of war, or the life after for a black Force Recon Marine in the late 1960's

I think that was an HBO film. Is that the one where Dennis Quaid is a Merc, fighting for the Serbs? If so that was a pretty brutal movie showing the mass executions. Very sad movie.
Can anyone say Firebase Gloria. The Gunny R Lee Ermey in an early role.

I don't think Dafoe was in that movie, but Danny Glover (Hugo Chavez hugging radical MoFo) was the OV-10 Bronco (Engine in the front and back, push/pull aircraft if memory serves) pilot.

Forgot about that one.
What was the name of the other one along those lines (70's era) with Christopher Walken, & Joe Beth Williams where he leads a Merc force into an African country? Other actors were the Al Bundy guy from "married with children" and Tom Barringer.
Also, The Dirty Dozen was a good flick as well.
The Dogs of War.
Easily one of my favorite movies.
Loved the Uzi with the big, honking Gen 1 NV telescope on it.
:D
What about that crazy chrome plated rotary grenade launcher thing that Christopher Walken was carrying? What the hell was that and how un-tactical can you get? Thing must have weighed as much as the receiver of a Ma Deuce.
