Hi everyone.

I just recently picked up a new Magpul MOE handguard. Are there any recommendations on sturdy rails to mount a VFG grip to?

How is the rail that Magpul sells directly (ERGO/Falcon Industries I believe). Is the polymer sturdy?

Thanks!

I have the ERGO/Falcon polymer rail and they work fine for me. I give them a thumbs up!

How do you work around the heat shileds to secure the rails? Do you remove them or mount the bolt through them?

thanks

You remove the heat shields.

For those that aren't aware, the Ergo/Falcon rails are very tall. It may be that they are as tall as they have to be, but I as kind of surprised at how thick they were when I received them. I'll try to get pictures today.

I didn't have to remoce the heat shield to install the Ergo rails on my MOE handguards.

These are the only rails I've ever bought and didn't realize that aluminum bolt-on ones are shorter - Would love to see comparison pics while you're snapping them...

The Ergo polymer rails also don't allow a tight fit with some scope rings (if you use them to mount flashlights). There is lots of slop back and forth.

The same rings lock up tight on metal rails.

I use Midwest Industries MCTAR-02 for my VFG on the MOE hand guards

I didnt remove mine (for 3 o'clock flashlight mounting) either.

Maybe it's needed for 6 o'clock mounting?

Nope, not needed for 6 o'clock mounting either (or 3 or 12).

I'm afraid that I am a bit dense here. I don't yet have the MOE handguards but am thinking of getting them for a spare upper.

I would be mounting the VFG at 6 o'clock and a rail for a light at 9 o'clock.

So would I need to remove the heat shields to mount these, and if so, how hard are the heat shields to remove and put back in?

thanks

I don't remember if I would need to remove them or not, but mine fell right out.

I am wondring if you are going with a VFG if you should use a long piece of rail to spread the attachment stress out.

No, you would not have to remove the heat shields.

Heavy Metal - I think you make a very good point. It's a valid consideration.

Thanks, guys. I am in a bit of a firearm reshuffle and the info is helpful and will likley be tested.

I think HeavyMetal made a good point about the longer base for the VFG to better spread the pressure.

Has anyone used the moe for a front sling attachment point at 9 o'clock? Is it strong enough to take the weight?

What is the light mount setup you have ?

I have not put a rail on mine yet, as it is on the wife's "basic" setup. I am with Heavy metal - a longer rail with at least 3 mounts points would make me happier that it can be better secured. I will try an old AAC carbine rail on my set just to see what it functions like.

That's an ElZetta light mount. They work very nice. If you get one, order WITH the thumbscrews.

Hey Rob, any follow-ups? Do you indeed have to remove the heatshields?

Thanks!
