How does the DD VFG attach? already ordered mine. it's suppose to be due at the end of this month. but pictures of the vfg got me worried. what mechanism is holding the vfg in place? is it sturdy?

I rarely see the DD VFG.

Unscrew or loosen the cap at the bottom of the grip, slide the grip onto the rail, place it where you want it (within the notch), then tighten the cap.

It is sturdy.

is this mechanism that holds on to the rail made of metal? or plastic?

after all the raive about DD rails. Nobody seems to be raiving about their vfg. if it really weighs just 3 ounce. it should be lighter than the competitors.

Notch is plastic. The VFG is good to go, it is much more robust than the KAC one. It probably didn't get as much coverage because there isn't as much advertisement/promotions for it like the Tango Down grips, which has been out for a while.
The grip can take lots of abuse and is well designed.

compared to the tango down.. how does it fair? tango down uses steel? or plastic attachment to the notch?

The non QD TD grips are a B*tch to remove. It uses metal pieces for attachment, which make them hard to remove/move. The QD ones are a big improvement, since they're fast to remove and the mount tightened for different rails. But both models are still more expensive than the DD grip ($60 for non QD, $80 for QD, and ~$50 for DD). I see the DD grip as the happy medium between KAC and TD grips just right for many applications. The plastic notch attachment is durable, and is much more rugged/beefier than the KAC grip (which used to be the standard, as they were in the SOPMOD package, and still is to an extent). The DD grips aren't the 'sexiest' looking ones, but they're functional...which could be another reason why it's not as popularl. I've been using mine for several months now, and I like it. It's not perfect (as with all things), but for its price point, it's a good equipment.

As for comparing ergonomics, they're kinda similar. I use my VFG grip with a high grip, so both the TD and DD grips felt similar to me. It's all personal preference. But if you're concerned about design/durability of the DD grip, I'm letting you know that it's very robust.

Actually, let me get some pictures up for you of the attachment method. It'll be easier than describing with words.

I don't have a TD grip on hand right now to compare with, so I pulled out my old KAC grip as comparison.

DD on left, 2 notches on the attachment peg. KAC on right with a small, singular attachment peg. Remember, the DD attachment portion can also store two CR123 batteries. KAC has no storage capability.

Mounted, KAC on right, DD on left. Length wise, they're about the same, but DD grip is obviously wider. The DD grip is also shorter than the standard length TD grip, and does pretty much the same thing (with battery storage). This might be a good thing, if you use VFGs with a high grip. The A2 grip texture is also well executed.

ah.. I see the attachment points now. I would agree. that it has 2 notches so beefier.

what about the grip? does it feel beefier? since the DD is thicker. or is it?

quality of detail? does it have a lot of mold marks?

I also hold the vfg with 3 fingers and thumb on top of rail. Sept25 is still a looong way.... can't wait to get mine. hahaha

by the way. what's the rubber grip you put on those vfg's . what do they do? do they help?

thanks for the pix. I rarely see pix of DD VFG. I still find it sexy.

Good/aggressive texture with wider body. The rubber's inner bike tubing I put on there. Helps a little bit with the high grip (3 fingers on top portion of grip, thumb on top of rail). I also got bike tubing on my MIAD for a few months now. It's mostly personal preference.

how do you attach the tube? tie into a knot?

Nope, cut it into strips and fit it over the grip...so no knots to tie. I also used some for my Glock 19.

Put it on the area where my fingers have contact.
