Okay I seem to have an issue with my AR-15 and I'm not sure what is causing it. I have a DPMS upper on an Eagle Arms lower and when I pull the charging handle to lock the bolt to the rear the bolt lock does not catch the bolt assembly.

When you look in the ejection window the bolt lock is actually hitting the bottom of the bolt assembly.... so the bolt assembly is not going back far enough to clear the bolt lock.

I'm new to the AR platform and I'm not sure what could be causing this.

Thanks for any help.

What kind of stock do you have?
And what length buffer and spring are you using?

I have a MagPul collapsable stock and I am not sure what size the buffer and spring are.

Should be a carbine length buffer. And your buffer spring should be between 10 1/16" to 11 1/4" any longer than that and it can cause the buffer to not move far enough rearward.

Are you saying you are simply pulling the charging handle back? Why I ask is because the bolt will not lock open on an empty rifle with no mag inserted, you need to manually pull on the bolt lock to make it grab after the bolt is pulled all the way back.

No I am holding the bolt lock as well.

Thanks for the help I will check the length of the Buffer and spring when I get home tonight. Is there a specific length the buffer should be?

My apologies for making you answer twice, I'm a newbie to the AR so wasn't sure if you were refering to the spring or the buffer in the first post.

Thanks for the help guys.
