Possibly a Type 38 or 44 Arisaka? The bolt is what makes me think it was Japanese. It has that peculiar throw to it.

How about some better pics of the overall rifle?

sorry, only pics i have (rifle is not mine).

somebody suggest it looks like a taiwanese seal on the rifle.

it has a Japanese Type I look to it.

others are saying it might be a blank firing training rifle.

bizzarre!

Looks like a Japanese Arisaka. Probably a type 38 or type 99 which were the most common issue Japanese rifle if WWII.

The type 38 fired a 6.5x50 round while the type 99 fired a 7.7x58 round. I believe the type 38 was the more common of the two.

I would be nice if you could add a few more pictures.

Also, measure the length of the rifle. If it is over 4 feet long then it is probably the type 38. The type 99 is more the length of a standard military bolt rifle at around 44".

It looks like an Arisaka but the bolt should be to the rear of the rear receiver bridge not forward of it like a Mosin Nagant. Plus the cocking piece is different. The oval bolt handle is Arisakish though.
