You're killing me, Grant....

I wasn't going to do any more classes this year. Between the right arm that doesn't work so good and ammo prices I should be done for the year.
Lemme check my schedule.

Since I'm in the last photo I hope that means I meet the prerequisite.
I should be getting in contact with you shortly.

My time off has been approved...so I'm in. I've been trying to get into a Hackathorn pistol course for a very long time. I can't pass this one up.

It's killing me that I'm still going to be out of country during this time frame.

If anyone out there is on the fence as to whether he should go or not, do not hesitate in attending this course. I cannot stress enough the impact Ken has had upon the improvement of my pistol skills. (LAV gets a lot of credit too.)

I'm flying in from NM for this class. The airline limits the amount of ammunition in checked baggage to 11 lbs. (400-450 rounds of 115 gr. 9mm). Is there any place locally I'd be able to pickup another 500 or so rounds of 9mm FMJ ammo? Or would I be better off just UPS/FedEx-ing some of my ammo to the hotel?

I have ammo I will sell you.

Awesome, I'll swing by your shop Thursday or Friday to pick it up.

No need for that. I will just bring it with me.

So bring your lights!

When I saw the description of the "Advanced" class on Tiger-Swan's page I noticed it included night fire. I figured we'd be doing it as well.

Cool beans!

...although that means spending more time on the range with Todd, so it's kind of a mixed blessing.

Agree. Todd should hand each of us money for every hour we have to spend listening to him tell us we suck. :D

I already paid him to tell me that in August.

I just checked the Wall again, JW, your name still isn't on there.

You suck.

edited to add: I've always got a couple of F.A.S.T. coins in my range bag, though, if you're feeling dialed in next weekend and want to give it a shot.

The arm is feeling pretty good. I even fired some rounds today. (The first I've fired since August) I'm not in danger of claiming a challenge coin...but perhaps I can at least not embarass myself on the damn drill.

I wonder if Todd will get banned off this range as well. :D

So...now that we're coming down to it:

1. Anyone up for dinner Friday night? It looks as if I'll be able to play hookie on Friday so I can arrive in Marietta at a reasonable hour. (Hopefully no later than 5 pm)

2. What's the start time on Saturday? Are we going to convoy to the range?

We should be there no later than 6 so wait for us and we will go to dinner.

Start at 0900 so we will convoy out of the Holiday Inn parking lot around 0830.

Do you have my cell #?

No, good sir, I do not. Shoot it via PM and I'll shoot you mine. That way if I get lost in Ohio you can help me out so I don't get lost and then have to shoot some hilljack to protect my anal virginity.

I'm probably going to have to bail on dinner tonight. Any plans for a post-dinner gear show & tell and general catch-up bull session at the HIE?

I tried to snag a Gen4 Glock to bring up, but there was some discussion about "prison" and a guy named Bubba who apparently has an affectation for vaseline and ... well, suffice to say I gave it back.

BTW, just over 2k rounds to hit 50k. JW777, I'm taking you up on your offer to dump some rounds through this thing before the weekend is over!

Sounds fine to me. JW777 can share with us if his anal virginity is still intact.

The next guy who uses the words "JW777," "share," and "anal" in a sentence buys dinner Saturday night for the class.

So very very wrong ...

Is anyone aware if Ken has a schedule out for this summer yet? I am looking to be back in the mid-Ohio valley for a while this summer and would like to take advantage of some training while I am there.

Thanks.

Todd,

What were your initial impressions of the Gen4?

There are half a dozen really major points I'd make about the new Gen4 Glock:

1. (deleted due to non-disclosure agreement)

2. (deleted due to non-disclosure agreement)

3. (deleted due to non-disclosure agreement)

Aw come on now Todd. Your holding out on us mere mortals. You don't have to disclose any specifics, I was just wondering if you walked away from the Gen4 impressed or if you felt it is going to be an improvement?

As I mentioned on my site last week, I intend to buy the first G19 Gen4 I can find.

Would the participants say that this was a more tactics-heavy class than some of his others or was it pretty representative of not only his classes but other instructors? What were the pre-reqs?

I've wanted to take a class from Ken for a long time.

I've wanted to take a class from Ken for a long time.

We saw a fair amount of tactics as we went through the shoot house.

I would say that if you have attended a Vickers basic pistol class AND have practiced what you learned, you should be GTG. If you do not practice, his drills will eat you up.

Ken will run the class as fast as the students will allow. So if you have a lot of HS shooters in the class (which we did), he will pull out all the stops.

All of Ken's classes are pretty heavy on tactics because that's his area of expertise. Even if he has to spend time going over the fundamentals with a class he will discuss the tactical realities of using a handgun for serious social purposes. Trigger manipulation and safety are important concepts when it comes to shooting in general...but they are both eminently more important when your life and financial future are on the line.

What were the pre-reqs?

The formal prereq was a basic pistol class from someone else. A pistol class from someone like Larry Vickers would be SUPERB preparation for Ken's Advanced class assuming you've learned the lessons and can apply them.

I've wanted to take a class from Ken for a long time.

Do it at your earliest opportunity.

Ken is one of the trainers out there I can recommend without the slightest bit of hesitation or qualification. Based on my experience in their classes if you have a chance to train with Ken or Larry Vickers get right on it. You will not be disappointed.
