Hello Everyone,

I am a definite FNG, I purchased my first firearm, a 1911, last year and have been putting together a nice little collection since.

I am a huge military history buff, I have 2 Garands and an M1 Carbine.

To be honest, I was pretty well involved in the WWII rifles and was not expecting to get into an AR for quite some time. However, I was offered a new Stag lower, went out and bought a lower parts kit, waited 6 months for a 20" Stag 4h upper and voila, I am now hooked on AR's..

I really enjoyed building this rifle, but I have to admit, I am a little lost in the AR world.

Can someone give a rundown on Stag?

Stag rifles are made with continental tooling and machine parts. Not much else to say, its a great rifle. Just make sure to check and see if the BCG is staked well as shown in the technical forums.

I have a few Denny's BCG's and have only good things to say about them.

When I was shopping, Stag's only deal killer was the 1:9 twist. I've seen a lot of Black Hills Blue Box 68-69 grain out there (around $35/50), so maybe you can find some your AR likes and stock up.

In my opinion alot of the chart is helpful when it comes to carbines and a good chunk of that doesn't apply to rifle length systems. Other than that it is a nice resource.

Can you explain this further? I have been shooting PMC brass through it, my vague understanding of twist is the lower the ratio, the more the bullet spins...

Am I shooting the wrong ammo? I believe what I am shooting is 55 grain....is that too heavy for a 1:9?

you should find info on twist rates in the knowledge base as well, but a quick explaination is that the longer the bullet, the faster the twist necessary to stabilize. bullet weight generally correlates to bullet length, so you can assume that 45gr bullets need slower twists, 80gr need fast twists. 1/7 twist is good for all military loads- it'll stabilize 55-77gr+

your stag is probably a 1/9, so you're probably gonna want to stick with bullet weights under 69gr.. but i've seen some 1/9s that handled 75 and even 77 just fine. in fact, just last trip to the range there was an old ****er shooting a 1/9 Bushmaster Hbar... had him some 77gr BH and was making ragged sub MOA holes 100m down range. YMMV.
