It is the process of dimpling some metal over another piece of metal so nothing moves. Or something like that.

It's a method to use either a punch or staking tool to slightly displace the metal at the joint of 2 different parts, one a fastener, to keep the fastener from rotating. Here is a picture af castle nut staking

Staking is, quite simply, a means of deforming two metal parts that join together in order to prevent the unwanted rotation/separation of those parts.

Imagine a nut and bolt that you don't want to come apart. Now, warp/deform one to prevent mechanical separation through any means that isn't deliberate.
