Longslide 1911s are a little bit of a specialty item.

There are several relatively affordable customs from both Fusion Firearms and STI, but these run around $1200-$1500.

For factory guns, Springfield and Para-Ordnance both manufacture a longslide. The Springfield runs about $900-$1000, the Para about $1100. I've heard rumors that Rock Island Armory makes a longslide that runs about $700 - but I've never seen one.

If you shop used, you may come across an AMT, these were manufactured with 7" barrels:eek: and were generally unreliable as all hell. Now that they are no longer in production, they probably cost a fortune too, just for novelty's sake.

long story short, if 4 digits is "high dollar" to your son-in-law, he's either gonna have to save up or choose something else.

Good luck.

EDIT: AK44's pic is of, I believe, an AMT 7" longslide.

Thanks CT! I think he's looking for a 6" long slide.

I have yet to see a long slide in person. I don't even really hear people talk about them unless they are refering to the picture I posted. Gman if you do get one for your son, do post pics!

I've heard very good things about the Springfield long slides. They have been making them for quite a while now, so you may be able to find a good deal on a used one.
