Anybody shooting the Blackwater USPSA match on Sunday?
The VA Arms crew won't be there is month.
I'll be there. And I'm bringing the Benelli for the side match

10-4, I will see you at sign-up. At least I'm hoping I can attend. It depends on one of my daughters since wife is out of town this week.
I'm going to skip the side match. I have not shot a shotgun in almost two years.
Damn it. I totally forgot about it this month. I think my brain is frozen.
I'll shoot for March, I guess.:(
BPS has improved their site to allow for online signup for the match. Sign up is VERY important, as you don't want to roll up to the gate at Blackwater and not be on the list!

Next match is March 18.

I'm pretty sure we'll be there for the March match. IIRC the side match should be rifle.
I plan on being in Norfolk for the St. Paddy's day parade. I used to live ON THE PARADE ROUTE and never got to be there for it, haze grey and underway and all that. So I don't know if I want to make the trip two days in a row. (No I can't stay in the area, my dog bit the dumbass at the kennel and now he's not welcome there anymore. Long story.)

Great pics, looks like everyone had a good time!
I know its competition... but I still cringe whenever I see someone crowd their cover. :(

Meaning the muzzle is past the end of the barricade. Fighting and competition are two different things but both use guns. It's kind of like US Secret Service PSD driving and drag racing. Both involve vehicles going fast but they're two entirely different animals.
Our targets were paper and steel the closet being paper at 43yds away and neither can grab the end of our rifles. Gunfights might involve someone grabbing your rifle.

In addition, crowding cover increases your likelyhood of being hit, as bullets tend to follow hard lines. Concrete, brick, and mortar (and metal & wood to some extent) tend to send launch off annoying projectiles when hit with incoming bullets, and it also gives away your position much more noticeably.
Again, its competition, which is why I caveated my first post. Just a cringe factor for me being a fight oriented shooter vs. a competition minded one.
:o ahhhh... thanks GotM4 and Hawkeye for the explanations!

When I train, I train. When I compete, I compete.
Here's a pic of me at the carbine operators course at Blackwater last year not crowding cover.

I have to work and will miss the next BPS USPSA monthly match.
How many of you guys are shooting the big Blackwater IDPA match coming up? I was thinking about signing up.

Good plan.
There are also probably times when you want to get closer to cover than other times. For instance, if you're behind something relatively narrow (like a tree or column) and you're facing more than one threat, you may have to stay close to it to avoid exposing yourself to one or both if they choose to spread apart. If you stand off from the cover a significant distance, you may give either or both a clear line of sight to you.
...sry double post... yes .. Im a newb!
When I train, I train. When I compete, I WIN!
Fixed it fer ya GotM4!!!

I'll be there shooting on Sunday April 15th. I was going to shoot CDP Sharpshooter, but I'll be switching to SSP Expert.

Not always RobG ;) , although I was 1st in Production (pistol), I was 3rd in the side match (rifle).
Both Tino and Brett got me. Here's the Scores (http://www.blackwatershooters.com/march_18_scores.htm).

I started shooting a M&P9 in Production last November after developing 'tennis elbow' from shooting my heavy ass STI Limited gun. I may or may not return to Limited but if I do I'll be having the STI lightened up a lot. Same as I did with my 3gun rifle.
