So I got a hair up my ass last weekend and loaded up some sub sonic loads to be shot out of my stag-rock M4 with m4-1000 suppressor. I have read a lot of negative stuff reguarding sub sonic .223 as worthless, you may as well have a .22 long rifle suppressed. Well the only difference is that I can shoot sub sonic loads which dont cycle the action, and I have the versatility to shoot loads that scream at 3200 fps.
With that said, what a freakin blast. Absolutely no noise, whatsoever. I am hooked and immediatley went home and reloaded about a hundred more. Load data was aquired from hodgdons website. Powder used was Hodgons clay's, and approximate velocity according to data was 1060 fps. I used a 55 grain moly coated V-max bullet instead of listed 55 grain FMJ.
Anyone who has a suppressed AR has to at least try shooting these once. I dare say that I could probably squeeze a few rounds off in my neighberhood, and I'm pretty sure nobody would hear me. Now I would never do this of course.
The only drawback is, as I stated before, the loads would not cycle the bolt. So I was stuck with pretty much a bolt action, which is both good and bad. Good in the way that I did not have to go searching through foxtail's trying to find my brass.
Also first round was fired with can off, so as to inspect for instability or breakup in flight.
