There are a lot of manufacturers who supply the military with quality components, however, KAC seems to be one thats been in the game a long time.

With KAC making a solid move into the commercial market, lets see what pictures you've got that show KAC weapons and equipment.

If your looking for less expensive KAC sights check out our new micro sights they are priced at 100$ for 300m and 125$ for the 600m these are the first in a series of comercial driven products. There are also other special deals avail. on our website like factory second RASs for 150$ and factory second 1 piece SASS scope mounts that were blems and have a paint finish. We will continue to make product that is compedative in the comercial market and not compromise our quality standards.

10-02-09, 15:00
Thanks. No the SBR isn't BFH. I had it built befoer they came out. I actually wasn't looking for the BFH in the midlength either, but it's what they had in stock. Patience isn't one of my virtues. I got a box o parts coming from BCM on Monday. A SOPMOD stock, MIAD, etc. to make it the same as the little guy. I'll post some nicer pics when I get them all done.

Hey Retreat, why do you guys run your T-1 in that position? I know Titleist does the same thing. I thought bridging the gap was a bad idea? I've got some XTM's coming for the mine as well. What are you running for a stock?

Well, the reason I initially started running my T-1's in that position on the rail is because I bought several Magpul MBUS', and my Aimpoint 3X magnifier simply wouldn't fit in between the larger-than-normal MBUS rear folding sight and my T-1s. That's why I shifted it forward a few notches.

Then I got rid of all my MBUS rears, but had gotten used to running my T-1s in that spot on the rail, so I just left it there.

Never heard that bridging the gap was a bad idea. Hope it's not since I'm now used to running my optics there. I guess I'll continue to do it unless something bad happens.:D

I'm running a MOE stock on that one because I don't need the perks of the actual CTR for that SBR.

Bridging the gap usually refers to have one scope ring on the upper and another ring on the handguard.

I don't know if it's a bad idea or not. I was asking not telling. :) Maybe it only applies to scopes. I was hoping someone smarter than me would be along to give pros and cons. The only reason I mention it is that I've had a DD Lite and a URX II come loose in carbine classes. The rotation of the rail was my first indication I had a problem. Seems like that placement would stop that rotation indicator. Or maybe I'm just forcing another rule to apply here based on my (narrow) experiance.

I'll try and remember to get someone to take some pics of me running my KAC gear tomorrow in class. Everyone likes motto pics, and Chris and Travis are gonna try and get me in the urban prone too!:D That should be interesting to say the least, and make for a pretty decent pic or two.

I'll also take plenty of post class pics as well, my guns and gear should be pretty damn banged up after working on concrete for two days.

Costa's all-KAC SR-16 upper with TT brake is ****ing sick!! Hopefully I'l get some worthwhile pics of everything! But so far I haven't had a chance to put down my carbine and pick up the camera... shooting bullets is just a lot more fun!:D

My patrol rifle and glock

Hey brother, just so you know I'm not a cop, I've never been a cop and will never be a cop. So that basically means I officially don't know shit when it comes to weapons that LEOs use, and I will not pretend that I do. I just wanted to get that out of the way here.

However, that said, wouldn't an Aimpoint red dot sight be better for a standard patrol rifle (overall) than the variable power scope you have on your SR-15? I mean, you could easily add an Aimpoint 3X magnifier on a Larue Tactical flip-to-side mount to have some magnification. I would just assume (once again, not a cop here, just making an assumption only) that your likely engagement distances, even the longest possible ones, wouldn't require that scope you currently have mounted.

I'm not trying to step on your toes here either, brother. And I apologize if I might sound like I'm a bit out of my lane on this one. I just love my aimpoint T-1 on my KAC SR-15 E3, and am more than confident that I can make my hits at range if need be without magnification of any kind (although if I was in your line of work and had the rare scenario of a bad guy with a gun to a hostage's head, I would like to have the magnification of the 3X sitting behind the aimpoint, even at 50 yards, just for good measure and added confidence).

Anyways, just a though, bro. Like I said, I'm not a cop and could totally be 100% wrong here. I just thought it was worth bringing up. If nothing else, I'll probably learn something out of it either way, which is always a good thing.

Geeeeez Derek you would think that when I hook you up with a special rifle as a favor, and that if there was a reliability issue that you would give me the opportunity to know about and fix the issue instead of hearing about it on a public forum for the first time. Well,.. I hope the new owner at least knows enough to contact KAC if he is having any kind of problems with the rifle.

Some people can get along with the 3X magnifiers and some cannot. I tried one and didn't like it. Also remember by the time you add up the RDS/mount and mag/mount you're looking at over $1k. For roughly 1k that opens up a lot doors into the 1-4X optic world....

Then you either have to go with an ACOG or 1-4X type scope.

Again some people don't like ACOG's if you have to do close in work.

So people go with the 1-4X. Ive had my short-dot for about 2 years, and its an awesome optic for the role where you want both close in RDS type shooting and can go up to 4X if the need arises. Only draw back on the Short-Dot is the weight, size, and price. It feels very out of place on an SBR. I put it on my LaRue 16" upper and its perfect in that setup. Its definately a niche item. Between the heavier LaRue barrel and Short-Dot that upper is a beast....just have to work out to carry it around all day....lol

I think that’s bullshit and you know its bullshit. Trey went out on a limb for you and hooked you up with the ability to get an SR-25 battle carbine, yes you had to pay for it but any business man knows you can’t give away shit for free. Yes it sucks it had problems but you should have given him a chance to fix it no matter what it was because shit happens. It could have been something simple and stupid, he extended a hand of friendship out to you and you just said **** you to him. Hell he more than likely would have done anything to fix it for free and or replaced it if it came down to it, to see that you where a satisfied customer. It amazes me the lack of couth many have when dealing with other people, and it’s not like Trey is a dick quite the opposite as he is one of the nicest guys in the Industry.

Step on toes? Of course not. Any opinion is welcome. I have an Eotech on another gun and like that set up. A well repsected trainer that I have worked with has his gun set up with a variable 1-4 and has had good results with it . My area can get into some extended shots so I figured I would give it a try and so far am pleased with the results. It did take some time getting used to to shooting it with both eyes open, which is still pretty quick on target on the 1x setting.

I actually find it helps me because Im left eye dominate and right handed. I shot for so long before I figured that out I keep shooting right handed as Ive never been able to be near as good left handed. Anyways I have a very slight astigmatism in my left eye which is why Im left eye dominate. The left eye is slightly stronger than my right so it took over. I used to shoot competitive trap, and would stick a peice of scotch tape on the bottom of the left lens which forced my right eye to take over. I ended up getting custom shooting glasses which were very slightly stronger on the right side and had the same effect as the scotch tape.

With the 1.1X bottom end it has the same effect for me where my right eye is seeing 1.1X and my left is just 1.0 basically. My right eye takes over and I see (while shooting) how a normal set of eyes would be at 1.0 left and 1.0 right.

Some people with the opposite problem as me sometimes say the 1.1X has a fishbowl effect for them, and don't like it.

Eyes have a lot more to do with this type of stuff than people give them credit for. In the trap shooting world eyes were a lot bigger deal. You saw people with the tape on their glasses, $200 custom lenses in 2-3 different shades, different sight beads, et cetera.

There are plenty of KAC users that need their rifles to work every day. Your rifle was from a batch of guns that went to a mil. group so if there is an issue with one I want to know about it. I would also like the opportunity to make it right. It is a little more important than a hobby to some of us.

I did, full disclosure as usual. Sold it locally here to a gentleman that shoots at our monthly comps.

I saw the rifle run at a carbine match earlier this summer and fall, seemed to be running fine on both occasions. Unknown round count at this point. Owner is extremely happy with the performance thus far. Took him awhile to get the Form 4 for the can approved, it was running well suppressed as well.

Maybe It was going through the teething/break in process when I had it, but the amount of rounds I had through it, in my opinion, should have put me past that.

Ammo, mags, the basic maintenance, tried all the variables on my end. With my expectations, they could have been high, but either way, I lost faith in it. It happens.

Thank you for your concern Grant.

One of the students in our class had his G&R 11.5 URX tank on him, so he ran that LWRC M6A1 upper for the rest of the day. I believe he said it was awesome.

It looked and ran great.

Good to know. I guess I shouldn't really be complaining about Costa not bringing it to our class, since I got to fire the KAC SR-25 Battle Rifle and all:D

Highly effective. I recently took a shooter who hadn't done much FA work, and watched as he dumped a full magazine into a 6 or 8" circle from 30+ feet.

I'm the guy that Isaac is referencing. My rail came loose and Chris lent that to me so I could finish out the day (thanks Chris)

Costas gun was set up pretty similar to mine. I had the T-1, Triple Tap, MIAD, KAC panels. The gun felt a little heavier than mine. To be more specific, front heavy. That could be due to the VFG (I don't use one), heavier light, and the CTR instead of my SOPMOD, I don't know how the rail, FSB and piston compare to the URCX II upper. I think the URX II package is lighter forward of the upper reciever, (just what I think, I could be full of shit).

The first evolution had us starting at the 7 yd line and moving back to the 25-30 yard line. I was surprised how little movement there was when shooting at 25 yds offhand.

The next day I used my back up which was a 10.5" LMT with a 7.0 Lite rail. It felt a little cramped as it always has and was the main reason I went to an 11.5 with a 10.5 rail. I just feel more comfortable holding farther out. With the longer rail, I can do that and still have room for a light.

All in all I really liked shooting it. Fixed FSB SBR with a 9" rail is a great set up. Not to mention, I don't think I've ever shot faster while maintaining the same level of accuracy as I did with it. I would definately consider it for my next SBR upper just based on the way it shoots.

I don't think the Mid-length URX works with the mid-length gas system. You'll need to go with the rifle length URX.

Thanks a lot, brother! Glad I could help;)

I recently discovered (by complete accident) how to better utilize natural lighting when snapping pics outside. I've obviously still got a ton to learn, but I've definitely progressed over the past many months. I haven't even attempted to shoot inside yet, but I'll give it a go one day when I have an abnormally high patience level (which isn't very often), because I know I'll just get really frustrated until I get it halfway right.:D

Thanks again, man.

Paul,

Once you get a lighting setup you like, start making minor changes to see what works, and what doesn't. If you are doing indoor shots or using artificial light, you might want to look at picking up a tripod. Slow shutter speeds will beat you up if you don't. :)

I had my Larue SBR with M4-2000 (yes the irony is thick with that combo) and I'd say to my ears they sounded about the same dB level. The NT4 however was a deeper sound to it, in a good way.

I also think the mount is more positive on the KAC suppressor. However it does require a bit more muscle removing than the AAC product. However the M4-200 has a TINY bit of up and down, side to side, movement (a mm at most) whereas the KAC is SOLID. There's maybe a little rotational play, but that's fine and maybe 2-3 degrees. Overall it's awesome. I'd heard people say it was a heavy suppressor, but on the SBR it feels awesome.

I need to drop KevinB a line and find out which buffer should be used with the NT4 when used in combo with the SR-15 E3. And I need to find a good home for the unused NT4 flashhider.

Our Combat outpost got attacked by small arms fire one day. I ran to the berm we had constructed and returned fire with my M4 and M203. My buddy got into a HMMWV that was to my back and left and returned fire with a MK19. All of the sudden there was an explosion about 5 meters in front of me and to the left in mid air. Turns out one of the MK19 rounds exploded after hitting a branch (probably about .25" wide) from a small tree. I had a quick WTF to my buddy and continued to fire. You gotta be careful with those HE rounds.

As a city cop, my need for firing HEDP is pretty small, but I like the way you think. I fire a lot of less lethal direct and indirect munitions, CS, and smoke, but I use department 40mm weapons for that.

For firing any of the more enjoyable 40mm rounds, I revert to my friends in the military. They have the ability to take good care of me.

I want to buy the new black TT "just because.":D Problem is, I have zero need for another one, and I know without a doubt that if I DO get one then I'll wind up buying a new damn carbine for it to be installed on.

That shit's happened to me before when I bought a new optic, and I'm not letting it happen again.:p

Semper Fi,

-Paul

I sold my "in the white" TP to get this one. Couldn't find a machine shop to grit blast my other one so split the difference and just got a new black one. For some reason machine shop owners around here are some real dicks, and even got hung up on by one. :D

Stick, are the spacers on the KAC T-1 mount steel? They look like they are showing rust, or am off?

No rust, just crappy pictures. I'm not sure what material they are to be honest, but they aren't rusting, I think its a matter of lighting.

This project started as a MK12Mod1 clone but was derailed after I ended up building a 6.5 Grendel

Barrel is a Satern cut rifle 6.5 Grendel with OPS Inc brake ( couldn't get the proper Mk12 Ops Inc brake and collar for the goofy thread on this Grendel barrel )

Still waiting for the KAC BUIS. Scope and mount is not proper for Mk12Mod1 clone but it was sitting in my safe gathering dust

Upper is a Larue, JP Carrier w/ AA Grendel bolt, and Geissele Match Trigger
