View Full Version : Let's see your backup Handgun
I picked up a Ruger LCP which is a backup handgun (palmgun?) in .380 auto. I've added a customized Hogue grip which seems to make a pretty big difference in how it feels in my bear paws. Holds 6 in the mag and one in the chamber and for what it is will dead a BG at about 7yds no problem.

I believe your BUG should be of the same caliber as your main carry weapon, so
If I am carrying my Browning Hi Power or my Para USA LTC 9mm I back them up with a Kel Tec PF9.

If I am carrying my Wilson Combat Professional or my Springfield XD45 I back them up with a Taurus PT-145.

My BUG is a Kahr K-40 with night sights. Heavy as all heck but reliable and accurate. I have a holster that secures to the straps in my body armor and sits like a shoulder holster. Spare mag in my trauma plate pouch. It's also the same caliber as my duty gun (G-22).

My Kahr PM9 backs up my Taser C2, if things get too hairy:

Sometimes this is my primary sometimes it's backup. It's just about always there regardless of which role it's filling.
I load it with 158gr LSWCHP. One of these days I might get around to trying some of those new fangled short barrel
Gold Dots but I've still got a couple boxes of the old timey stuff that will last me a little longer.
The lock has been disabled.

I definitley would not want to find out!:D

Can you give some more info on that Taurus? How has it held up for you? What does it shoot like, in terms of accuracy, recoil, feeding and extraction?

For the size of this gun and having a polymer frame, one would think it kicks like a mule. Quite the contrary...the recoil is more of a push, that even my 97lb, 5'6" wife can easily handle. I have only had a total of 3 failures to function in over 5000 rounds through this gun. One was a feed problem and upon inspection of the cartridge, it's overall length was longer that the standard 230gr 45acp. Two other FTF's were extraction problems after the gun had been shot over 200 founds without cleaning. Accuracy is much better that I would expect with such a short barrel and an inexpensive cost. Here is one of my targets, that I shot freehand from a modified Weaver stance at either 15 or 25 yards. I usually mark them.

Wow, that is an impressive group. I bought a Taurus PT140 some years ago, and shooting it was like spraying bullets all over the target. It was far, far inferior to any of my other handguns.
I was truly amazed at how inaccurate it was. Your gun obviously has no such problem.

You are not the first I have heard from about the PT-140's inaccuracy. I have heard very few such reports about the PT-145. I have let others shoot it and most have been impressed with the accuracy and comfort of the gun. Double taps are very easy to accomplish with this gun. There is very little muzzle flip. You do feel a definate push back into your hand though.
