Hi everyone. I'm new to the AR world, just bought a CMMG bargain bin as my first rifle. I picked up a magpul backup sight and 4 pmags for it and headed to the range today.

All was well until halfway through the first magazine (shooting Wolf .223) when the gun started double firing twice in a row. The bolt then got stuck in the forward position and it took some decent strength on the charging handle to bring it back. I then replaced it with a full magazine and all went well for a short time until it began to double fire again. I removed the magazine and ejected the last Wolf round and put in a magazine of Federal .223. The first shot was fine, but then it fired 3 rounds in a row. At that point I stopped shooting and called it a day. I just dropped it at the local gunsmith, and dropped CMMG an e-mail.

Anyhoo, I had a blast in the short 45 rounds or so I was able to shoot. Hopefully I can get this sorted and keep shooting :)

CMMG responded to my e-mail. They believe it may be a defective trigger disconnect, we'll see if the smith concurs.

Good stuff, hopefully they get it sorted pretty quick I want to shoot this weekend. If the club I belong to wasn't sticklers about automatics I might go have some fun with it first, but not being able to tell if it's going to fire 1, 2, 3, or 30 rounds, might be unsafe :)

Well my issues were sorted by the gunsmith to the tune of $140. The larger majority of that being time.

These were the parts replaced:

Took it right to the range and had some fun... tried out the new Eotech I got, and had a blast.

So...

Rifle $620 shipped
FFL $30
Eotech $360
Repair $140.

So, I'm $1150 down, I think I did "ok" but might have done better getting a newer rifle from another brand or building one from the ground up, but I'm satisfied. I'm going to leave it as is for a while, perhaps change the grip, the rest can wait.

Welcome to the forum.

Remember that when your gun starts to "double" when you squeeze the trigger, you have two problems- one with the rifle and one with the Law.

You forgot to add the price of the Magpul rear buis :).

You might want to try the EOTECH without the flip up covers. They are not really needed and can get in the way.

Not bad for your first try, and the rifle looks good. I've seen that problem with top-tier AR's as well (ie: Colt M4's) so as long as it's fixed don't let it deter you. Just one suggestion - take those dust covers off the EOTech!

welcome to the board spiff. i dont know if anyone has said this, but i would recommend shooting better quality ammo than the wolf stuff. either that or always clean your guns thoroughly after every single round fired. experts, correct me if im wrong, but arent they still using that corrosive powder in their rounds?

oh, and sweet deal on the gun bro.
