View Full Version : I need an Armor tutorial (for dummies)
A series of searches here has produced too many hits to be meaningful.
I know virtually nothing. Any resources online or pointers to specific threads here or (shudder) TOS would be great.
I am thinking of getting something basic for eventual use in courses involving shooting in unconventional scenarios etc. Also, frankly, because I am skeered of the zombies.
Do you need soft armor or plates? Concealed or tactical? What kind of ammo are you trying to defeat with this armor? What's your budget?
Would like to defeat at least 5.56 inasmuch as that's what I am likely to be shot with by accident, I suppose. Concealment might be nice but I am not LEO or anything. Plates vs soft? That's why I need a tutorial.
Read a little bit here... (http://www.bulletproofme.com/Quick_Answers.shtml)

Has anybody purchased from these guys? Are they good-to-go?

To make it simple, I would suggest a modular plate carrier and stand alone level 4 plates... light, dexterious and highest level of protection without soft armor ICW
Check out http://www.bulletproofme.com
I originally went with a full soft armor kit with shoulder, neck.groin, elbow and knee protection with 2 ICW level 4 plates and it just became too much armor to maintain full dexterity in a dynamic environment...
I am in the process of trying to get rid of the soft armor so I can just run stand alone plates x 4...
As much as I love the thought of being protected against high velocity fragments and small arms cartridges...I am more worried about being protected against rifle rounds.
I have found that with me its one or the other since I cant have the best of both worlds. I sacrificed more soft armor protection for more hard armor protection.
I am not naive enough to believe that all 2 legged varmints carry small caliber pistols and that if the shit does hit the fan I will only be up against threats smaller than .44 magnum...

No, because I don't need to. If I were going to purchase armor on the market, BPM.com would be the guys.
So, "yes" to your second question.
Could someone recommend armor that would stop 5.56 at a good price?
Thanks
