POF will finally be releasing their gas piston rifles as SBR's from the factory in 5.56mm and .308. They have always stated that they would not release them to the civilian market but that is about to change. A limited amount (maybe 100) will be released very soon to special dealers in their network. One of those dealers is already taking refundable deposits for the SBR. I have mine on order and thought I would give everyone here a heads start. Good Luck!

Do military and police units even buy POF carbines/rifles? Not talking about individual SWAT officer purchases here, but actual unit purchases. Just curious...

Also, why in God's name did POF ever start making their uppers/lowers with that horrendous looking NP3 coating?

I have heard that a few departments have purchased them. I put a call in to find out how many or which ones. I will let you know what I hear.

I totally agree with you in regards to the NP3. If it was in another color other than silver, it might fly. I have seen one done completely in NP3 and that looked amazing but more of a novelty. I wouldn't want a fighting rifle that looked like bling.

Yeah I understand wanting one for purely collecting sake, or maybe for a strictly competition rifle (like the purple an green ones I sometimes see at the range owned y the comp shooters), but surely that wasn't their intention when they created it. I think someone over at POF just thought it looked "cool" or something, that's my guess. Because POFs really aren't competition rifles at all to my knowledge. But I could be completely wrong about that reasoning (it certainly wouldn't be the first time I was wrong.. or the last:D).

As for my first question, don't put too much effort into finding that out, brother. It's not that important to me, I was just wondering out of pure curiosity is all.

Hmmm... I was just today thinking about SBRing my .308 POF Gen III lower. Right now it's pulling duty as a long range weapon in an AR10 platform w/long bull bbl. I love the idea of the Leonidas type rifle and think I'm going to SBR that lower so I can buy a 14" or so upper to swap out of the need arises for a more 'portable' .308 weapon. I just like them I guess. As far as jumping into the Charlie Foxtrot that will come from only 100 units direct from POF I think I will pass. Fun idea though.
