I'll shoot you a pic of my Eagle LE CIRAS and my PC w/cummerbund when I get back into town. Most of my pouches are TT, DBT, and Eagle. The PC rides up front in the patrol car so I have quick access to it and the CIRAS is in the trunk with the other tac gear.

P.S.-Typing every word beginning with a capital is hard to read.

Probably not suited to most people's needs, but here's what I've started with. Still need to add plates.

Do the plates stick out much on that mayflower rig?

cpekz
10-09-09, 11:15
I think that would depend more on what kind of plates you use, rather than the vest itself.

Rob, I know this isn't directly in line with the intent of this thread, but do you mind posting a pic of the chest rig attached to the carrier? How are you liking it so far for your purposes?

Thanks,
Dan

I don't think anyone likes side plates. So do you wear them or not? The whole concept of having side plates is controversial I guess. I am required for insurance reasons to wear them.

Rob and I are probably the most vocal proponents of wearing armor for protection during training courses. If you are attending a carbine course, then it seems that you will most likely get shot from the side while standing on line with the rest of the shooters.

...or even running drills at the range with friends and shooting steel. accidents do happen and i'd rather err on the side of caution. here are two i've worn on occasion.

Thanks!

I have some really old soft armor that I wear to the range, but given its age and today's advancements in technology (not to mention comfort), I should really upgrade to something newer. Also goes without saying that my current armor would not stop a rifle round of any kind.

This is what I wear everyday to work. I recently got this one to replace my ABA Xtreme carrier because it sucked.

This is the Paraclete Mesh concealment carrier.

Rob,

Yours is probably closer to the needs of an average dude than what folks often think. It works, and it's concealable. Streamlined and lightweight is worth way more than being loaded down with every conceivable contrivance and gadget. Mobility is a huge priority.

For work (HRE), I use an Eagle Land CIRAS. For lower profile, non-HRE stuff I use Safariland concealable IIIA armor. I have an Eagle PC/cummerbund if I need to add rifle plates over top in a visible way. I also have a slick plate carrier, and a slick Eagle BALCS/plate vest if I need to conceal it.

Plates are various manufacturer level III stand-alone/IV conjunction plates, or level IV SAPI plates, depending on the set.

Helmets: I have an ACH, and another one with high cut sides, the name of which escapes me.

Same carrier as Rob, but with attached QD chestrig.

Same armor and plates, but in the low pro assault carrier.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v468/zushwa/Grv7085copy.jpg

Here are the type of plates used. You can tell in the picture above that they don't print much with the right cover shirt.

90% of the time I do not wear the side plates.
The internal pocket in the cummerbund leave a lot to be desired.
Gene @ HSGI Modified the Cummerbund on my SPC for me which I sent with a friend to use in AStan.
It felt a lot better, but I still hate side plates.

gonna have to start sucking it up..

@ rob_s & zushwa: Is there a way to add side-plates to that smooth carrier? In other words, like the mayflower assault carrier cumberbund, but without all the molle.

The Low Pro Assault (http://stores.greygrouptraining.com/-strse-3058/LowProfileAssaultCarrier/Detail.bok) will take 6x6 side plates. It is the same armor profile but with MOLLE instead of slick with buckles.

Assume I know nothing about armor (I don't... though I was given a IIIA vest that doesn't fit), does that price include any actual armor, or is it a carrier only?

That $250 is carrier only. Armor is extra. This is what I use (http://stores.greygrouptraining.com/-strse-2649/K3K3A-dsh-PAE-dsh-CC/Detail.bok) in my carrier. Or you can go with the Dyneema version (http://stores.greygrouptraining.com/-strse-2660/DSTS3A-dsh-PAE-dsh-CC/Detail.bok) if contact-distance shots aren't as much of a concern, you are more concerned with having a lighter weight system, and you have 2.5x as much money.

Then you have to add plates which can range from $300+/- for a pair to over $1k depending again on what your needs are, what level threat, material, weight, etc.

What is the OAL and OAW of the soft armor(inches)? That is a good price for 3A soft armor of that size...

Get Grey Group to tell you. :D

Seriously though, while it's not terribly hard to get in and out of the carrier, I'd rather not mess with my setup. There are pictures around here somewhere that I took of my carrier with a tape measure under it. that should at least give you some idea.

You can get a decent soft armor package with carrier for around 400-500.00 and upwards of over 1000.00 ....
Plates will run anywhere from 100-1000.00 depending on the materials used to construct it.

Mayflower is supposed to be making their own. I have a TT Mini MAV inbound that i'm hoping will work.
