ammo question.

I just recently bought all the parts to build an ar15. it is my first gun of this type, I have been looking in the forums and I couldn't find anything that I liked to answer my question. So I bought a 1x7 16in barrel and I know it would be best to shoot a heavier bullet, so my question is how heavy? and is there any brands that i should not shoot? I am going to be shooting paper, not hunting with it.

For punching paper, 55gr stuff should be plenty.
