Early this morning a customer comes into my shop to look around. He sees nothing but AR's, AK's and other tactical goodies and says to me; "Who needs this stuff besides cops?" I patiently try and explain to him that the AR is an excellent self defense weapon for civy shooters. They can also be used for varmint hunting. He then explains to me that these things can get in the hands of terrorists and we shouldn't be allowed to own them!

Well just coming off the outdoor life article, I snap and tell him that if gun owners don't all stick together, then next on the list to be banned will be your beloved auto loading shotgun! I also attempted to explain to him that the 2nd Amend. isn't about protecting your right to hunt, but to over throw the Govt. That was the first he had heard of that I think.

It is safe to say, that I have lost a customer for life. Today was a good day. ;)

;) Sometimes I think the (sport shooting/hunting only) enemy in our own ranks is worse than the anti-gunners.

I had a really interesting conversation with Jim Scoutten yesterday at the Smith & Wesson winter championships. He brought up something that I hadn't thought of before. Many older hunters don't view their rifles as guns. They view then as tools that allow them to hunt. The disconnect between a gun being just a hunting tool and weapon is really odd. I think it would be obvious to anyone with half a brain that they are one in the same. I guess I was wrong.

Either way, you may have lost a customer for life with that guy but you gained one with your professional and courteous behavior with me when I placed an order today. I suspect that I will be a much better customer than the other guy anyways.:p Seems like a win/win to me.

Seems I have been saying the following a LOT lately....

One of the worst things that was ever allowed to happen, were for the words "sport", "sporting", "hobby", and "hunting" to ever be assoiciated with the 2nd Amendment in any way shape or form.

When I first start at the machine shop I work at I heard comments like this only a daily basis. I stayed quiet about by hobby and when it was time for the company's summer picnic and clay shoot I brought along an AR. Most of the hunters where apprehensive to shoot it but once they did it instantly changed their opinions on "assault rifles". Being able to shoot the gun, I thought, would have much greater affect than me arguing with them.

People more than likely make the association because their hobby is shooting, whatever dicipline. The amendment simply allows people to have them for the various reasons(including nothing other than protection)

I bet alot of people have a weapon or more and have it for protection if needed and don't even do any sport, hunting or hobby. No issues there. I don't like some language in certain codes that reference repair facility, shooting ranges, etc.

No dig on hunters. Some are like alot of people in others areas of new items, whatever they may be and are reluctant to change, try new things, etc. So when they see a hunter with a semi auto AR, etc., they don't "see" a place for it.

I get the age old question at work "why do you need that?" or "why do you have so many?" --becaue I can. And the old scratch my head and wonder "I'll just come by your house when the sh*t hits the fan"

As you know, when you "need" one, you will be grateful that you "have" one. Once again, people's opinion affecting to many things.

Like the amount (lack thereof) of guns used in crimes obtained from gun shows.

And as I have posted elsewhere........

The 2nd Amendment was and is, at its core, about killing people, whether or not people want to admit and/or acknowledge it......... Tyrant leaders, oppressive governments, thugs, criminals, foreign invaders, etc. Killing people is not a sport, nor a hobby.

In regards to training and need-alot of people could use some more. Everyone could always use more.

You see it all of the time, people think they're there and when the rubber hits the road, there "ain't no traction".

Assinine. Absolutely assinine and EXACTLY what I refer to in my post above regarding the 2nd. For people like this, their entire association begins and ends with a "range". It goes no further than that.

The more "gun boards" I view, the more I feel like a milk bucket under a bull. Completely out of place. :(

Grant, apparently you need to learn the rules of the internet:

Rule #1 - Don't pay for porn, ever. There's plenty of free stuff out there.
Rule #2 - Don't talk about ARs on Glocktalk.com

You are clearly in violation of rule #2. Why you would even discuss ARs over there let alone "training" is beyond me. Those guys don't get it, won't get it and couldn't get it. They have built their own world over there and reality be damned!

Follow Rule #2 from now on please.

The militia has nothing to do with hunting, so why should the militia be limited to hunting rifles?

This is why I love the picture of me with my dead pig. I tell people all about how I went hunting, and did this and that, and shot myself a pig, and they're all into it (well, most of them anyway). Then I say "yeah, want to see a picture?" There I am with my Sordins (on top of my tactical yellow visor, of course), and an AR15 with vertical foregrip, compact ACOG, and 30 round magazine sticking out of it. At this point the conversation always turns one of two ways. It's either "cool, didn't know you could hunt with those" after which we get into a discussion of the performance of the .223 etc., or "what the hell do you need a gun like that to shoot a pig with?" after which they make the  face because I kick them squarely in the nuts. Either way, fun for me!:D

All of you who have read that thread, now know exactly why we will have a new ban passed. You now know why we may very well, sadly, see a second civil war in this country. The 2nd Amendment, and the Constitution in general, has become a joke to the vast majority of our country. Those who value and understand the things that drove the writing of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution, freedom and individual rights, are now a minority, just as they were in 1776. History does indeed repeat itself.

kel3at

It's true a vast majority of us do not "need" AR's, AK's, or other rifles at this time. But if you outlaw them, we surely will "need" them in the near future. We have to keep our firearms legal so we will never be put into a situation where we will have to use them.

I say anything that gets banned from the people must be banned from the Government as well. If they ban the AR from us, then the police and military must be banned also from using AR's within US borders also.

Black Rifle Club and Non-Glock Firearms, both sub forums over at GlockTalk.

The first is where AR questions go but the noobs that hit the site usually post in the Non-Glock Firearms forum because that best fits there question when they don't realize there is a sub forum below. They tend to get more accurate answers there but the AR haters swarm there. Then the noob hears why the AK/FAL/etc. are better than the AR.
