So i picked up this mystery Colt a few years back. It's well fitted and shoots great, but i would like to replace the rear sight with an exact replacement or a fixed (like the HD one). I; however, cannot accurately ID the make, though. Can you guys help?

Most of those rear sights will either be a Bo-Mar type or an LPA type. The dovetails are different so you can identify them by measuring them. I've got the specs somewhere but can't seem to find them. IIRC, the Bo-Mar dovetail centerline is .480 from the front of the sight.

Bo-Mar is out of business but Champion (aka Kengs) makes a copy with several different options, including the chamfer cuts on the sides of the blade like yours has (I suspect that yours is made by Champion):

Most of the sights that other companies sell as Bo-Mar replacements are made by Champion.

If you are interested in the HD sight, drop John Harrison a line and he should be able to help you order the correct one.

thanks dave. i have a hd001 from John harrison at the moment and i cant get it to fit. the dovetail is way too tight. the half serrated rear blade looks like bomar, but every bomar that i've owned/seen has "BOMAR" written on the right side, and the "PAT" and "R" on the left. i thought it was an old Kensight, but i can't tell either way. i think the LPA has two setscrews on the top? And the chamfers at the top were filed in later.

It also looks like the sides of the sight have been narrowed a bit. If you look closely you'll see that the bottom of the sight's dovetail is wider than the body of the sight itself. Whoever did the installation ran a ball end mill on both sides, cutting the sight and the slide. If you find a replacement it is going to hang over the ball cuts in the slide.

Also, the Bo-Mar that I have has an "R" with a circle around it stamped on top between the elevation screw and the sight blade. Yours is probably a Kensight/Champion/Kengs but you'll still need to do some measuring to see if it is a Bo-Mar or LPA sight cut.
