Is it compatible with any lower?

There was some guy trying to get .45 into production. "Tangochaser" from TOS if I remember correctly. I don't know what ever happened with it.

Yes. With the Olympic lower you have to use the Olympic mags. One of the part-timers here at work has a special lower which uses unmodifed Grease gun mags.

Several are using the Olympic with a Cav Arms lower.

I had an Oly .45 upper years ago that looked like crap and the mags were grease gun ones with ugly welded abortions on the back to fit in an AR magwell. That said, it ran just fine for plinking and it was lots of fun to shoot .45 ACP out of an AR!

The Oly .45 mags with the ugly welded on spacers are actually .45Acp Uzi mags. The width of the GG mags will not allow them to be placed in a standard aluminum 5.56 lower (as is). The guys running GG mags have either a Cav Arms lower, a AL lower that has been broched for the GG mags (typically cast with a wider mag well section) (Tango chasers), or a 5.56 that has been modified with a GG mag well (Bazzoka Brothers).

Juston Halford of cncguns.com and myself designed the AR45 lower receiver that uses unmodified M3 grease gun mags. No complete guns are offered at this time but Justin makes a 10% version and Thompson machine can finish it to 100% for you. Check out the AR45 threads on www.cncguns.com.

Also check out the AR15.com forum under pistol caliber ar15s. I can't post the link as I have no access to arfcom from this computer. This thread also has two guys making direct impingement uppers (gas not piston).

Look up AR45 on youtube and you will see Justin shooting his with a suppressor and look up ".45 in a Sten" and you will see shooting .45 ACP HPs through a Sten mag with a regular AR lower and a 9mm Sten magwell block. I have another video on youtube where I shoot .45 ACP and .45 Super out of mine. Don't laugh to hard where I scold my wife for jiggling the camera.:D

There is also a tacked thread on ar15.conm where I layout all the possible ways to get/create a .45ACP AR. Oly is out of parts until God comes again so that option is off the books for now.

MGI makes a .45 upper but I don't know if it'll work with any lower other then theirs. It'll probably fit, but I imagine that you'd have a problem with the magazines. Their lowers uses unmodified Greasegun mags and Glock 21 mags. They do offer bolts and barrels in .45 but once again, there could be a compatability issue

There are a couple of companies making 45 uppers and complete rifles. We have made a few using a standard AR15 lower receiver. Most have used the 45 receivers mentioned above to build their 45 uppers on.

We are working with a company to build some 45 parts for us and offer them for sale.

Not an upper per se, but there were supposed to be semi-auto 16" versions of this produced. I've heard about these things for years, but have never seen a first hand review anywhere.

Here's the non-NFA version:

That's a nice but it looks like they only sell to military and law enforcement. I wonder if they will sell individual parts. What type of mag block do you think they use?

I"ve also seen the Oly 45 upper and they used a modified sten mag. The only problem is the mags is not available at this time. Is it really that hard to find a sten mag?

It looks like that you can use the regular AR lower and components with this. Or do I need to modify the lower also to be able to use the 45 upper?

The Oly .45 used modified .45 Uzi Mags...and yes they are that rare.

I have had AR 45's since the first year Oly came out with them and
have alway had at least 2 in my safe.
It all started with Uzi mags and blocks then it went to welding
a block to the Uzi mags then Grease gun mags that were pressed and the
block was welded to them.
Iv'e been through 9 AR 45's and the 2 I now have are my best yet.
CNC lowers are the best out there and dont look like a dremel tool built
2 pc frankin lower.
