I am going to install a Magpul MOE handguard on the carbine I am building. Is there a rail out there that works better with the MOE than any others.

I am looking at these two;

For the bottom of the handguard to attach a verticle foregrip;
http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/Midwest-Industries-MCTAR-03-p/mctar-03.htm

And for the side of the hadguard to attach a light;
https://www.bravocompanyusa.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=MI%2DOR

The second one is currently unavailable.

I have also found these from Falcon;
http://www.botachtactical.com/faerpora.html

The falcon is made from Polymer. Plus they are available.

Any suggestions or criticisms would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I used a Streamlight polymer rail. Works great, and was 15 dollars. :)

I'll see if I can find a link.

But only because that's what my local shop had. I would imagine both of your options would work very well. :)

Thank you. I will give it a look.

Does anyone know if there is a difference in durability between a rail that is machined from aluminum and one that is made out of polymer?

Not that I plan on doing this, but, if you were to change things out on the rail, would one stand up better over time?

I just installed the Falcon Poly rail and it was way undersized and would not begin to hold a TD VFG solid and the screws are easily over tightened and chew thru the Poly rail. I would not even recommend using the Poly rail for a light mount on a hard use gun. I had an aluminum rail I pulled off another gun and it appears to work fine, but I will be shooting a match this weekend and know more then. Avoid the Poly IMHO

That is the information that I was looking for.

I'll go with the aluminum set then.

Thank you.

I would second this. Do not use the Ergo rails. Nothing locks up tight with them. Go with an M.I. metal rail section instead.

Looks like like I will be getting the M.I rails.

Thanks

try these. They're the same thing Magpul sells for the MOE.

I've got a MI picatinny rail section, and am pleased with it. I have a VTAC flashlight mount and SF 6P combo mounted on it. It's solid.

I realize I am a bit late on this thread, but I wound up using the 1.5" Midwest Industries bolt on rail at the 2 o'clock position on the forward slot.

See:

The MI nuts will not work there without modifying the heat shield, so I wound up using the Ergo backing plates, which fit the MI screws (IIRC). Or, perhaps I used the Ergo screws. Either way, it worked well.

There is a thread on mounting various sling attachments to the Magpul MOE handguards at:
