What position do you guys like to keep your collapsible stocks on? I prefer one click out on my 6-position extension.

Just curious what what you guys prefer.

ETA:

I suppose I'll add a picture. Yeah yeah, I'm skinny.

I got no choice. I have the Jersey legal version of the LE6920. It's the mt6400c. It's almost completely the same gun except for the muzzle brake and fixed colapsible looking stock. It's fixed all the way out I think. Gun even has the m16 bolt carrier.

I keep it ready 1 click out, but prefer fully extended for bench shooting.

Depends on the stock length, ie M4 style or CTR.

Typically as far out as possible without overly straining my neck to get my nose to the CH.

Without armor I prefer the SOPMOD 1 click out, and I am by no mean a small guy (6'1" 220lbs). With armor I prefer the CTR, 1 click out, or the SOPMOD all the way in.

When I first started shooting an M4 in the Army I had it all the way out, and even then it felt too short. Since my technique has evolved and improved. Recoil management has improved 1000 fold...

Whatever gives me the closest to 12" LOP. Second on a 6 position, I think - I haven't moved them in years, so I'm not sure.

I think ultimately it depends on your proficiency and style of shooting. I personally am 6'6" about 280# and have an 83" wingspan so body shape/size will also play a big part. I feel most comfortable with the stock all the way out. With that I can get good extension and control recoil better than having the stock all the way in and feeling too compact if you will.

I'm running a CTR with an enhanced butt pad all the way in.

With the regular butt pad , one click out.

I'm 6'4 and about 265 lbs. and I shoot with my nose on the charging handle

3 or 4 on a 6 position tube with a Vltor Mod stock. 6'3" 265lbs. and I keep back about 1.5" from the charging handle. I still remember climbing the scope in the early days... :(

0 for basic shooting. 1 on full auto and 2 for bench.

Unfortunately I live in a restricted state so I learned to shoot on my gun in what I assume is fully extended. I feel really in control of the gun as it is to be honest, but I haven't had a chance to see if I feel comfortable with a shorter stock.

I am 6'4" and have really long arms. I recently went to a LEO dealer's shop and played with some collapsable stocks and I didn't feel comfortable at all in the fully collapsed, first pin out, or second pin out. It felt way to short.

I am wondering if there is anyone out there that can explain the benefits of the shorter stock to me considering my size.

with body armor or winter clothes you'll find the collapsible stock to be usefull.
otherwise you're too tall :D

even if you're a giant a collapsible stock is usefull for shooting from a vehicle or just for storing inside a trunk

You can get a normal collapsible stock on a milspec buffer tube and have it pinned (or pin it yourself, it's quite easy) in the position you want it in. A lot of my AR15 owning friends from my home state of CT do this with their weapons.

I have mine set in the second position. It feels good there and is compact.

Knuckle dragger here, too. Fully collapsed in armor, one click out without.

Seems like I'm kinda on the other end of the spectrum. I tend to run mine 1 click in from fully extended. I'm 6'2" Don't have a tape measure handy to measure wingspan. Also I'm just a regular civy so no experience running with armor.

ETA: Knuckle dragger???

Thanks for the tip. However, I'd have to figure out where I want it other than all the way out. The consensus seems to be 1 or 2 clicks out. However I have to be careful here in the commie state of NJ. Not sure about this. But I think if I am caught with a collapsible stock (before I get to actually have it pinned) in the same house with a weapon that could fit that stock, I could be charged with having an assault weapon.

In NJ an assault weapon is a semi auto that takes a detachable mag, and has 2 or more of the following features: 1)flash suppressor, 2)bayonet lug, 3)pistol grip, 4)folding or telescoping stock, 5)grenade launcher. I think that's the skinny on the law. Our assault weapon law came in around 1990 before Clinton.

Here's the deal on high capacity mags, which also came into law in 1990 or so. A detachable mag made to fit a seimi auto with a capacity of more than 15 rds. Here are a few crazy points of the law. If the mag is over 15 rds and fits full auto weapons only (not an ar15/m16 mag cause that fits both semi and full auto weapons), it is not a high cap banned mag. A famous 2nd amendment lawyer here actually got a guy off on this technicality. The guy had an old drum mag for an old Thompson which only fit full auto versions. They acquited the guy and gave him his mag back. Also, there was no grandfathering. Whoever had these mags became criminals overnight. So some people say well then just throw them out and you won't get arrested if they are found in your possesion. Well, it is also illegal to dispose of them. So you are stuck with illegal mags. Also, shortly after the law came out they said a temporarily blocked mag (like an m1a/m14 mag with a piece of wood blocked to 15 or less rds) are ok to possess. Then in the last couple of yrs or so they now decided that the mag has to be permanently blocked. In other words the bottom plate has to be welded on (after blocking it to 15 rds or less) in a way that can't be unwelded easily. I'm sure there are a thousand guys in NJ who thought their temp blocked mags were ok, and now they are in possesion of illegal mags cause they haven't kept up to speed on the laws.

Think gorilla arms. :)

Thats me as well.
Actually built, behave and just as friendly as a gorilla,so Im told,frequently....
I prefer the SOPMOD on the 3rd position, particularly with the optics on the 20" SPR's,with a heavy coat in the 2nd.
