Yep. BCM ELW midlength. It's a great handling carbine.

You SBRd a 14.5?
You SBRd a 14.5?
Already had an 11.5 SBR. I liked the 14.5 so well that I SBR'd a second lower for it. I absolutely abhor the idea of pinning a muzzle device, so that was never an option.

YA don't feel like an oddball, I'll be doing the same thing. In the long run the $200 tax stamp will save you money over the life of the lower. I'm not sure why others DON'T go this route.

My first AR15 had a pinned muzzle device and I will NEVER do that again. Ever. I'll pay $200 for a tax stamp and wait before I deal with that again. Not the biggest deal in the world until you want to change it or start running suppressors & such.

Oh trust me, I don't feel like an oddball. ;) IMHO, pinning is for people in ban States and people that aren't thinking clearly. There are way too many complications with pinning. At the current form 1 wait times, it's silly not to do it. And if you already have an SBR lower, there's zero reason to get one pinned.

Yeah well I had my MAMS pin welded on my KAC 14.5", but I thought long and hard about it and knew that I would never change it. This decision was made before the current wait times dropped significantly and I didn't want to wait longer than I had to for the Carbine. Plus it was done gratis by the dealer I ordered from and the lower was un-SBR'd as well. I'm confident in his ability to remove the device without doing damage to it or the barrel should I get a wild hair up my butt and decide to go a different route. But I agree in that once a SBR'd, no reason to permanently attach an MD.

Doesn't Gemtech make a suppressor that locks onto the A2 and BCM Mod 0, Mod 1 flash hider/Comps? Just asking because my 14.5 is pinned and was looking to get one.

That one is understandable, especially considering the approval times back then. It's a unique upper and you did what you had to do. For most other uppers, where the only difference is 1.5" of barrel, it's just not worth the headache. The KAC carbine is a unique gun, so I certainly get that. By the way, don't ever let it go! ;)

I don't own any Gemtech cans to speak from first hand experience but I believe there was an option for that. The rifle pictured will have a QD YHM mount shortly.

This sort of proves the point about pinning the muzzle device. You're now in a position where you either have to pay a skilled gunsmith to remove and replace it OR let a $50-80 part drive a several hundred dollar decision.

While I can't bring myself to post a pic (and probably in violation of this thread), 22 months after ordering (paid in full), my Noveske 10.5 Switchblock (Gen3) finally showed up at my Dealer. Form 4 Submitted yesterday. LONG wait (I've built 2 pistols since ordering), but it's a complete factory-built rifle that should hold it's value over time.

How do you like your hidden wall box?
I love it. I was going to spend $500+ on the name brand one and realized 1) I've got most of the materials out in my shop to build my own 2) I'm frugal with my dough and 3) I'm fairly craft so I bought some sliders at my local Home Depot and started cutting holes in my wall. Ended up being some interesting stud & electrical work I had to contend with to center the final product where I wanted it but in all it wasn't too awfully bad and it was something I would've contended with had I ordered up a pre-built one too. It's not as nice as that one but sure cost a heck of a lot less and accomplishes the same mission so I'm happy.

First SBR Upper:Colt 6920/MK18 Conversion done by Specialized Armament, Ken and the people there at SAW are true professionals, and did an outstanding job. Cut to 10.3, re-thread, re install AAC 51T FH for SDN6,opening gas port and whatever other magic they did. VTAC Light mount with plain Jane SF G2,mbus and painted Aimpoint R1. Lower: Colt M4 Carbine Form 1 Lower, B5 Sopmod Stock, Geissele SSA and plain A2 grip that I plan to change. Very soft shooting with the Standard H buffer, locks back on empty as well with or without can. May try H2 or H3 to see if it changes how the gun feels, recoils, but why mess with a good thing, we will see. Video is shooting it first time after zeroing at steel gong at about 200 yards or so, second video is with can on,I did miss a couple lol pretty impressed with set up. Thanks again to BigWaylon for Form 1 tutorial great job!!

Probably a little late now. You just need a mirror, some 2x4's, speaker box carpet or better, some slides & a shelf kit if that's your flavor. You can find all of it @ Lowe's/Home Depot & to save money located the mirror at a garage sale or CraigsList. We had a full length floor standing mirror in the corner of our bedroom that I took the stands off of to use. Then just start cutting shit up! lol

Just remember; measure twice, cut once and if you have a stud finder that also senses electrical you'll be happy to use that a lot. Other than that it's pretty much basic carpentry and the thing with carpentry is as soon as you start cutting into things most of your plans will go out the window and what worked for me will likely be completely different for you once you cut into your wall.

What brake is on the painted SBR? At first glance I thought it was Silencerco's MAAD mount version. How does it compare to the MAMS?
Gorgeous setups by the way, love the streamlined look.
Edit to add: a little surprised your not running the T1 on the shorter SBR, and the M4 on the SR15.
It's a Ferfrans CQB brake.

The post above is the correct answer - Ferfrans CRD (concussion reduction device). Without the shroud it performs like any other muzzle brake, very flat shooting and nearly non-existent felt recoil. The detachable shroud does what it's designed to do with regards to concussion reduction by channeling the most of the blast forward much like the KX3 or similar Krinkov style muzzle device. There is a noticeable difference when the shroud is employed when compared to the bare brake, and behaves more like a compensator in that regard. When compared side-by-side to a dedicated compensator such as the MAMS, it performs about the same with a slight edge going to the MAMS. With regard to the optics, the 11.5" SBR is fairly heavy, much heavier than the KAC Carbine. I wanted to retain the ultra-lightweight profile of the KAC and didn't want to weigh it down unnecessarily with a heavier optic, hence the reason why it wears a micro as opposed to the CompM4S. The SBR on the other hand really is a beast.

Yes. I've been collecting SBR's for a while now. Since my sheriff has always signed off, I've had no reason to do a trust. It's easier to get a signature than setup a trust. I don't really want to setup a trust at this point and then have some of my SBR's in it and some not. Plus, I think that I'd have to spend $200 each to do that anyway, but I could be wrong. It seems pretty odd to me that they'll let you efile if you use a trust, but not if you don't. You'd think that since the efile thing seems to be going so much faster, less going in the old way would speed it up too.

I'm in the same boat as you and think that most who do Trusts for this purpose really don't get anything out of it. If your CLEO signs off then it doesn't really make sense to me and I'm yet to find a convincing reason. I digress. I think the reason that it has to be a Trust to eFile is that there are no fingerprint or photos to deal with. That's all I can think of that separates the two of them that would allow one to eFile versus having to mail all documents in. Perhaps they can set up a way to send in just those to expedite the system. Heck, I can attach a digital version of the photo & prints pretty easily too. Dunno but now that it's taking ~5mos to get them I'm not as jealous of those that are able to eFile especially when you consider that if you get rejected eFiling you don't get a reason and have to resubmit from the beginning, no spot in the queue.
But, this isn't really the ATF/NFA discussion thread so I'll save all my detailed thoughts for another conversation elsewhere.

If you get it as an individual and not with a trust, can you let other people possess and use it while you are not present? With a trust you make them trustees.
Would it even be legal, say, for my wife to use my SBR when I am not home with the individual/CLEO sign off method?

Show me a case where a significant other was charged with possessing an NFA item when their spouse wasn't home.
Again, this isn't the space for this discussion.

I'd rather not violate a law just because I don't know of anybody being hung out to dry on it yet. Especially a federal weapons law.
Show me a case of an otherwise law abiding citizen being charged with possession of a short barrel rifle without the stamp. I don't know of any. Doesn't mean I'm going illegally assemble an SBR, and certainly doesn't mean I would recommend it to others.

You can efile as an individual. It has the option when you fill out the form 1 eform.
In the sense of NFA devices, my sheriff is light years better than Lupe Valdez. BLEH!
Yeah my trust was a few hundred to get done, but at least I have peace of mind in that sense. I have one SBR under an individual, my suchka. I might transfer it over to the trust later down the line, but for now I'm good.
If it's working the way you do things, then why change right? Good on ya.

i don't believe e-file is available for individual's , only trusts and corp.'s.
you might want to wait until we hear what 41p will involve before you transfer your individual sbr into your trust , depending on how your trust is set up.

This was the result of two years of saving and consolidating all my rifles down to just one versatile SBR, and I'm very happy. Very lightweight as is, balancing on the rear of the magwell, which should balance well once the suppressor is added. Smooth shooting and accurate as expected. The USO 1-4x was a great match for the versatility i was seeking. I tried a few different minimalist light setups including a surefire x300 and inforce wml, but at the end of the day I fell in love with the Rosch sight. A magpul mbus pro rear sight is on order.

I kinda like the old style look. I'm thinking my next upper will be the BCM 11.5 if I can ever find one in stock. Here's the kicker... I've been looking, without success, for a set of shorty handguards in the old triangle shape. Not to be found anywhere.
Updated my MRP a little bit. Took the flip ups and T1 from another rifle. Just need a WML and it'll be done. Well, until I talk the wife unit into a suppressor.

I put my Arms Tech upper back on the SBR where it belongs. Had to re-zero the sights after shooting them on the pistol's 7.5" upper. Better to leave the pistol and SBR alone as I built them. I like this Arms Tech upper better anyway... more accurate, and way more muzzle velocity.

Just under 5 months door to door for my paper Form 4 with a trust. A definite improvement but if they had just gotten E-forms right the first time, we would probably be seeing less than 1 month across the board right now. But that would be too easy.

I kick myself every time I think about not buying a Krink kit back in the day when it could have been had for less than $100
I would have bought a truck load of them at $100 a pop!! I paid 750$ + for that kit plus another 140 for receiver, and another 100 for those hand guards! Lol the para cord wrap was free though! ;)

mplecha, what brand case is that in your photo?
That's the Larue covert bag. It's just a hair too short for the assembled upper/lower.

Looks well made, like most of their stuff. Pricey too. I could fit my 9.5" SBR in there.
It's a really good bag. I've used it for a 16" rifle for a long time. A 9.5 would fit just right.

Aimpoint is on backwards slick. I think most people run that grip the other way too but that's more of a preference I suppose.

You sure about that Jer? Looks kosher to me...

I admit I'm no SME, but I can't see how the aimpoint could be backwards. I don't think you can see through it in the other direction. ?

I'm pretty sure Jer was too quick on the "slick" trigger. Looks good to me! Can't wait for my stamp so I can post mine! What kind of qd attachment point is that?
D'oh! My bad. Long day. Bed.
The qd point came with the kmr upper. I assume its bcm piece.

Its a 14.5" with a removable flash hider!
My new PWS MK114 MOD1
I removed the 11.95" handguard that came on it, and replaced it with a PWS 15" handguard for that full rail look and function. Seen here wearing an EOTech EXPS 3-0, Insight L3 Warrior systems light/laser and Magpul MBUS PRO sights

All AR-15 type rifles, regardless of barrel length are registered in the same manner here in Canada. 7.5"-20" AR's are considered the same.

Yeah, the handguard ends just before the first opening of the brake. Worst case scenario, the inside of the handguard, right at the brake will get dirty. Oh well.. I can live with having to clean the inside tip of the handguard..

Very nice munch! Any details on your pelican case setup?
Sure, it's a Pelican 1650 and it's setup now to carry a lower, 2 uppers, 2 pistols, mags, IFAK, and suppressor. I also dug deep on the foam (where the larger upper goes) and I can fit a 30cal can full of ammunition+extra gear in that space, in place of an upper. I've had dedicated rifle cases in the past, but they're a bitch to wheel around (not very stable, narrow 'wheelbase') and can only hold a rifle and maybe a couple mags. I can pack this thing and get off a plane with everything in one spot, easily accessible. Beats having gear spread out amongst 3-4 bags/cases. And as you can see, I've still got some space to pick out to store more stuff. :)

Also if you're not adding a can, the A2 FH works fine.

I didnt even realize it had a spacer, I bought it used on gun broker for my AK, not sure if I am going to keep it on the gun or not but it works! I read that the A2 works fine and was going to keep it on but I decided to go with the AAC Blackout minus the can mount for now. I would like to add a silencer in the future but its not in the budget right now.

I pulled the rail off my 16" carbine, I wanted to replace the delta ring and add a low profile gas block and go with a newer style rail system but the cost and effort didn't make sense when I could have just bought an upper with it already on it.

Took a few mags to break in, but cycles subs and supers fine now. I use an H2 buffer and standard carbine recoil spring. Accuracy is fine, I can get an average 1" to 1.5" 5 rd. group at 100yards.

Nice....that was actually my first thought but it looked like AP's modular handguard system. Sorry for the insult

I think Ride is using something else, due to the orientation of the base. But thank you for the compliment, nonetheless. :)

I agree, I have your inline mount (which is excellent). That's something else.

I didn't notice either, that's why I paid $15 instead of $30 ;)
