Thanks Trident. The Troy rail covers are great; think KAC, except they seat anywhere on the rail and have a more aggressive/stipled surface. I bought them b/c they appeared to be similar in hue to the LMT sopmod tan, however they are somewhat in between LMT tan and magpul FDE. I think they are a bargain at (3) for $20.00.

Thanks.

Thanks man. Optic is Gen II Elcan Spectre DR 1-4x (SOCOM FDE variant) and the ambi mag release is KAC. I have 2 of the KAC ambi mag release units and they are very smooth....great product.

Nicely done! The Kino looks great. Did you mount the ATPIAL aft of the SR07 switch for balance or ergonomics?

08-06-10, 22:54
Paul in addition to Buddy's ATPIAL question, are you running a mini-Scout or full size?

If mini what are your thoughts on it & whose mount, a DC or GS? Buddy I saw you have one inbound, myself also.

Titleist
08-06-10, 23:41
I think the DCC mount is great, but the GS mount is just the tits! It's fantastic.

That's an M300 scout.

RetreatHell
08-06-10, 23:52
Okay, I'm confused here. I just wrote out a well thought-out and somewhat lengthy (for a pic thread) response to Buddy's question, complete with another picture, and now it's not here. WTF? Either it was erased, something screwed up, or my dumbass hit "Preview" and saw it and then closed it out before hitting "Post."

I think it was the latter... shit. So here I go again.

Buddy- Thanks man! I'm loving it thus far, and tomorrow night I'm going to another night vision shoot with friends, so I'll be running the PEQ-15, Aimpoint T-1 with PVS-14 mounted behind it, and the Surefire can. Should be pretty fun!:D

As for your question, it was for both, really. I can't have a really front-heavy carbine and shoot/run it the way I do. If it's too heavy, due to me being a paraplegic and not having those crucial ass and leg muscles, I'll fall forward when I shoulder the gun... not good. So I mounted the PEQ as far back as I reasonably could without having to move my T-1 back more than 1 rail notch.

But on the other hand, ergonomics is very important to me too. Before I had the dual pressure pad (SF white light and ATPIAL), it was really hard to feel around for the big "Fire" button on top of the PEQ-15 with my support hand at night, so the pad is a godsend. And sometimes I have to mount something far forward, like the Surefire light. Can't exactly mount it at the rear of the rail... well I guess I could, but it would be pretty stupid:p

Agile- As Titleist said, it's the M300 mini-scout. I think it's pretty much perfect for everyone. It gives the right amount of light for up close, and is great for lighting up a target at 100 yards with ease. I think the M300 and the X300 are awesome lights for carbines!

I'm using the Larue mount right now simply because I only have ONE m300 light currently, so I need to be able to quickly and easily switch it between different carbines. Once I get another one though, it's going in a DCC mount for sure. I love the low profile it provides by bringing the light in so close to the "pocket" of the rail like that! Very cool!

Old/New

Old Colt 6933 with new I-Shot case

A 10.5" SBR will definitely fit better, but the 11.5 with long ass AAC blackout mount does fit.

To get it to fit I took off the E-mod Stock, and taking off the sling mount from the rec. ext. tube would allow the stock to close completely and make it fit a little better still.

The best fit IMO is with a 20 Rnd mag. Didn't even really fool with trying to fit it in with the 30 Rnd.

30 rnd. may fit but will be a PITA to deploy.

Will have a 10.5 " upper back next week and it will make it's home inside the I-shot.

With regards to the hammer spring, I checked it and it was installed correctly. It was a factory built lower so I didn't expect to see it it backwards , but I guess anything can happen.

If the pins are walking out does that mean something is out of spec with the pins or the lower? The gun was brand new/unfired when it happened on my first outting.

Haven't shot it with the brakeout yet. I got it for that same reason, maybe a bit less wear and tear on the suppressor.

I still think you would have to shoot a whole lot to wearout or really degrade the performance of the M4-2000 with either mount. I also went with the Breakout because it is a little shorter so this SBR fits better than an 11.5 with a Blackout in my IShot case

If someone bent the hammer springs to lighten the trigger pull the trigger pin could walk out.

ETA: Also, if a light hammer spring was used that could cause the same result.

Sorry to go OT.

Hmmm...That brings up someting I've never thought of until now.

When storing rifles for long periods , is it smart to store with the hammer forward?

If someone knows of a nother thread on this type topic please provide me a link ;)

As far as the hammer spring being tweaked, it would have to have been done at Noveske when it was built.

I'm not overly concerned about shooting out the M4-2000. Just figured it can't hurt to throw a baffle in there before the can. Enjoy the gun, hope your pins stop walking out on ya. That's a nice case you have BTW.

I caught a large poplar tree on fire today when shooting barricade against it with the Noveske 10.5 SBR with the AAC Brakeout.

Just kidding, although it did leave some serious blaster marks on the tree...think Star Wars

I shot M855 and XM193 through it.

The brakeout was like a mini-flashbang in terms of concussion and candle power.

The very 1st shot had would have blinded me permanently, had it not been in the day time. :p

I've never had anything other than A2 and AAC Blackout FH/FS so
this is my first brakey type muzzle device.

Shot some suppressed as well and it did fine. AKA no baffle strikes.

I can see the merits of the breakeout on a 14.5 ish upper for sure.

I just wanted a Non-blackout for one of my rifles.

Did I mention that I really like this thing?

Photo is soft to begin with and Picasa made it even worse. Oh well, the post needed a pic!

Oh. Darn. I actually like the standard upper and LaRue rails. I don't guess you can get him to use either anymore? You could purchase the Noveske matched M4 Upper/lower set and then buy your own Novekse Barrel, GB, and LaRue Rails and either assemble it yourself or have a professional put it together for you.

This would give you the same upper for your resgistered SBR Lower.

Also they come up from time to time on ARFCOM and even here @ M4C in this factory Noveske configuration.

You'd also have a leftover Noveske lower ready for a future non-SBR build

Thanks, bud.

BTW, I found the gun more comfortable when I put ladders on the sides...my hands are small enough that I need less bulk on the 3:00 and 9:00 rail so that I can get the bore control that I like.

Nice pair. I have a TLR1 light set up the same way on two guns and I keep burning through batteries while the are in their cases and moved around the lights keep coming on. I know I can pull the batteries but don't want to do that. Do you have the same issue?

I can see your issue. I normally keep mine off the SBR. It pops on very easily, and would rather take the time to put it on than risk having the battery burn out.

Its a .40. Hk Bolt, Hk stock, semi-sef trigger group, hk ejector. Hk support tube, full auto bcg(us)...us barrel unfortunately, Led surefire. Parts count is just right...And it cycles TMJ reloads..Have shot 1k of them out of my g23 w/ no kaboom, and about 8 mags worth in this gun before I took the can off... I have considered a Bill springfield trigger job..but I have spent way too much money recently...

It is LOUD, but very effective. 3-8 round bursts with this upper on a FA lower are very controllable. If you shoot indoors I would look into something else. Blast and noise aren't quite as bad outside but it is no fun to shoot inside or even under awnings.

What the story on that sling mount for the MOE?

Glad you asked. I wanted to do a little review on it the mount. I just found it another member here had a different version on a gun of his and I asked about it.

Here is the link. I have the Rotation Limited Quick Detach Sling MOUNT-N-SLOT™ they also make a few others for the MOE hand guards. Shipping was quick and the package is actually folded in such a way that it can be mailed out in it's package. It is pretty smart actually and saved them money for shipping. I think the tag said something like $1.73 it. They are also made in Colorado. Give them a try. I am very happy with mine. It sticks out a little father than I would like but it works very well and is made very solid.

My mission on this build was to create a semi-automatic version of what I think is the ultimate CQB AR rifle, the MK18 MOD0. I have used as many NSN'd parts as possible. The Upper, RDS, White Light, RAS, CQD Plate, etc. are all NSN'd items.

The upper has just about 2000 rounds, cleaned once, frequently lubed, no malfunctions or stoppages of any kind. This is by far my favorite AR, and possibly my favorite weapon.

ETA: Specs

LMT MK18 MOD0
LMT 10.5" Upper
LMT SBR'd Lower
LMT BCG
LMT SOPMOD
LMT Rear Sight
Colt A2 Grip w/gapper
Dieter CQD Sling Plate
KAC RAS
KAC VFG
Aimpoint T-1 in Larue Mount
Surefire M600C

My mission on this build was to create a semi-automatic version of what I think is the ultimate CQB AR rifle, the MK18 MOD0. I have used as many NSN'd parts as possible. The Upper, RDS, White Light, RAS, CQD Plate, etc. are all NSN'd items.

The upper has just about 2000 rounds, cleaned once, frequently lubed, no malfunctions or stoppages of any kind. This is by far my favorite AR, and possibly my favorite weapon.

Just got the Form 4 back last week. I bought this rifle back in February from a seller in Texas. Took FOREVER for the paperwork to come back. Unfortunately, not me shooting given I'm on the other side of the continent at this time. The UMP conversion was done by HDPS. I'll have better shots and a personal range report when I get to handle it in person.

Nope is my only sbr. I wanted to do a color change to the gun on a whim and the moe is cheap. They both offer gret features. The sopmod is hands down the best stock on the market. But the moe fits better because the back is angled to fit people like me that are "slanted" in the front for men of my size

Has anyone tried the Magpul AFG the angled foregrip? I usually put a vertical foregrip on my AR's but this looks interesting. I see many of the things I'm putting on mine on yours but I haven't seen this...opinions?

I'm new here and look forward to getting to know the regulars

11-17-10, 18:57
Evan- You can't use the AFG to it's full potential on a short carbine length handguard/rail. I wouldn't recommend it. If you have a shaved FSB and a midlength rail or DD RISII then go for it. They work well but I ditched mine long ago. TD stubby works for me.

Lucke551
11-17-10, 19:09
The TD stubby was really my first choice but the grip looked interesting...maybe I'll try it on my 16 inch Carbine. I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas with this SBR and suppressor but it's not like I don't have any other toys to play with...oh well just a big kid at heart.

usmcvet
11-17-10, 19:17
I agree skip the AFG on an SBR. I tried it when it came out on my SBR and I hated it. Unless your 16" carbine has a long rail you may feel the same way. I could see it working on a rifle length or mid length rail but 7" is awful tight in my opinion. I think your TD stubby w/o quick detach is an excellent choice. It is also affordable. I've tried half a dozen fore grips and really like the stubby TD and MOE the best.

Yes kind of. I also sling the rifle ejection port in when transitioning to handgun.
The originals quick-adjust two-point sling maker, Boonie Packer, also suggests this connection method. Having the connection on the outside also keeps it out of your face when shooting.

Reserecting this post to see how the rail has held up. I have the same rifle, ironically built by overland as well I was thinking about adding the rail too.

It just hurts me to drill my top cover on such a beautiful rifle...

Ive messed around with 3 different barrel lengths and rail configurations and the KINO with the MOE hand guard and a MOE stock is balanced perfectly for me. Im finally set on my SBR build, and I couldnt be happier. I had been running my front Troy flip up sight flipped up all the time anyways on a 10in rail. I want the 12.5in for the extra velocity, while still keeping the gun short, so I went with the KINO and love it.

The can is an Ops M4-S. Really only designed to take off the harsh bark from the muzzle break yet still keep the OAL of the firearm short. Works really nice.

Thanks for the replies. I like the look with the shorter can. I've got the M4-2000 coming-waiting for paperwork-but I believe the OAL is a little longer and I was kinda worried about it having enough clearance to fit.

Don't knock it till you've tried it. It gives my the best of both worlds. I like to change my grip up depending on my stance, shooting around, under or above objects.

Ive been looking towards the YHM Phantom. Between research and what other SBR guys have told me is that the YHM works great on SBR rifles. I just dont know yet if I can get over how heavy it is compared to some of the AAC's. Its a pig.
