Looking at some of the local shops today I came across some H4198. Most of the places around here don't have much when it comes to reloading components. Has anyone used this powder and what was your bullet weight? Thanks.

I have not used it in a while. It is an extruded powder so more difficult to meter. I used it in a 7.62x39 application back in the 90s...

I have used it pretty extensively in my 223 loads. Recently I was given about six pounds of it and loaded up a bunch of plinking loads with it. eguns is right, it does not meter well but I didn't care when I was only putting holes in silhouettes out to 100 yards.

H & IMR 4198 is more suited towards 40-55 gr bullets and SBR's. It is a faster burning powder and 55 grainers pretty much max it out. Works well in 10.5" SBR with 55s but it can vary significantly from lot to lot and brand to brand. There are better powders available now and flow more uniformly though a progressive press or powder thrower.

I started using it 25 years ago in 223 loads for a 14" contender.

I've used it forever for the .222 with bullets in the 45-55gr range. Superb
