For those with experience with both...which do you prefer and why?

I know this totally avoids your direct question, but have you even considered a PWS FSC556?

All right, fair enough...however it is very minor. It's nothing like, say a Surefire 556K muzzle brake :D

KX3 , directs everything out front, shooters on the line will thank you.:)

i personally like the KX3, i have it on my pistol upper and works and sounds great.

Even if they were equal, I would go with the KX3. I have questions about the quality and long term durability of the Levang based on who makes it and how much it costs.

Maybe the Levang will last indefinitely, but I know that the Noveske is a quality piece of kit and worth the price.

I've run guns with both.

The Levang is much lighter and less expensive. Directs blast forward as well as the KX3. As far as I can tell, the only thing the KX3 does better is increase the gas volume / pressue available for your action.

The KX3 is, however, much cooler-looking. So do you want form or function?

I have several thousand rounds through the Levang - everything looks to the eye as it did when new, just more carbon.
