All

The schedule is almost finished for the first half of 2010, I still plan
to add a few classes by Kyle Lamb, Louis Awerbuck and Steve Tarani plus
possible another instructor and they will be added when the dates are
firmed up. Hopefully the shoot house will be finished the second half
of 2010 and we can start offering classes with that in mind. More info is available http://www.southernexposuretraining.com/

All classes are with Randy Cain of Cumberland Tactics unless listed
otherwise. http://www.guntactics.com/

2010

Jan 22 & 23 AK Operator This is a class built around the particular
operation of the AK rifle, while it is in some ways similar to the AR it
has its own idiosyncrasies. All of us should become familiar with this
weapon as it is the most popular in the world and we may have a need to
learn it. Any caliber is welcome. Two days $375.00

Jan 24 & 25 Carbine Instructor Development. This class is offered to
teach the student how to diagnose and correct shooters problems
including their own. At some time we are all instructors helping others
to shoot better. Prerequisites apply and instructor approval is
required. Two days $375.00

Jan 26 - 28 Tactical Handgun 101. Once again the most popular class
we offer and the most repeated because it concerns the fundamentals of
shooting and tactics. All students will be better shooter under the
diagnostic ability of Mr. Cain I urge all serious students to repeat
this class twice a year. Three days $475.00.

Feb 19 - 21 Tactical Handgun 101. Once again the most popular class
we offer and the most repeated because it concerns the fundamentals of
shooting and tactics. All students will be better shooter under the
diagnostic ability of Mr. Cain I urge all serious students to repeat
this class twice a year. Three days $475.00.

Feb 22 - 24 Tactical Carbine. Many experienced shooters consider this
the best carbine class available as it really focuses on the
fundamentals. Mr. Cain requires a high level of accuracy and competence
with the weapon. I recommend this class for all wishing to take the more
"advanced carbine" classes we offer and is a prerequisite for those
classes. Three days $475.00

March 13 & 14 Ladies Handgun We are now offering the Ladies only
handgun a second time during the year as it always sells out. A two day
class taught from a woman's point of view. Many ladies finish this
class shooting better than their partners. $375.00

March 15 - 17 Tactical Carbine 2. This class is for the students who
wants to go further than the Tactical Carbine class. This is a fast
paced class introducing some new techniques and the student will be
pushed to his limits with the same degree of accuracy (it is not a brass
making class). Prerequisites apply. Three days for $475.00.

April 13 - 15 Intermediate Handgun. One of my favorite classes as it
reinforces what the student has learned in TH 01 without all the
explanation of techniques. It is a shooter class and most classes go
over 1200 rounds. Prerequisites apply as the student must be able to
duplicate the TH 101 on demand. Three days $475.00

April 16 - 18 Tactical Carbine. Many experienced shooters consider this
the best carbine class available as it really focuses on the
fundamentals. Mr. Cain requires a high level of accuracy and competence
with the weapon. I recommend this class for all wishing to take the more
"advanced carbine" classes we offer and is a prerequisite for those
classes. Three days $475.00

May is reserved for Louis Awerbuck and Kyle Lamb Dates and class to be
decided. No I won't take any requests for slots until the class and date
are set (no matter who you are). :)

June 11 - 13 Tactical Handgun 101. Once again the most popular class
we offer and the most repeated because it concerns the fundamentals of
shooting and tactics. All students will be better shooter under the
diagnostic ability of Mr. Cain I urge all serious students to repeat
this class
twice a year. Three days $475.00.

June 14 - 16 Tactical Shotgun $475.00 This is my favorite class offered. The shotgun is the ultimate home defense weapon in my opinion, some prefer the AR platform with its 55 grain bullet, some a handgun with its 230 grain bullet but I really like a one ounce slug. Like Mr. Cain says those other caliber are made to make holes in people but shotguns are made to take "chunks" out. I have a few loaded around my house at all times.

Please contact me via email to book any classes or if I can help in any way.

Irv, good to see you posting here.

All, Southern Exposure is where I do virtually all of my training. I have been going there for several years and have trained there with Randy Cain, Pat Rogers, Louis Awerbuck, Bill Jeans, and Travis Haley (prior to him joining Magpul) and Eric Torres as Simply Dynamic.

Southern is a fantastic, if sparse, facility and they have big plans on continuing to improve the range. The lawns are well manicured, there's a covered pavilion to get out of the rain and sun, and there is a restroom with running water and a real toilet. I see pictures from AARs of other facilities with port-o-johns (if you're lucky), no pavilions, and rock-covered or overgrown ranges and it really makes me appreciate Southern. Irv really runs a great facility and goes out of his way to make sure everyone is taken care of. The instructors even go to dinner with the students after TD1 and TD2 which is a nice thing to have and really adds to the family atmosphere. They say a church isn't the building it's the people, and I would say the same thing about Southern.

I'm sure many of you will notice the large number of Randy Cain classes on the list. Southern is kind of Randy's "home range" (despite the fact that he lives in Tenn.) and he teaches a lot of classes there. For those of you not familiar with Randy or his instruction I suggest you pick up a copy of the December issue of SWAT (hitting subscribers now, on news stands in a week or two) for an article I wrote about re-taking Randy's Handgun 101 class. Randy is hands down the best teacher I have ever come across in 13 years of primary education, 7 years (undergrad and grad) of "higher" education, and a lifetime of sports and music lessons as well as professional on-the-job training. He is one of the unsung trainers in the business because he doesn't market himself. He's not pimping a line of products, he's not repping for one brand or another, hell he doesn't even bring t-shirts to the classes to sell in spite of the fact that people beg for them at every class. Regardless of how many classes you've had, or how long you've been shooting, do yourself a favor and get to one of Randy's Tactical Handgun 101 classes, and I can think of no place better to do it than Southern Exposure.

This year and last have been light training years for me due to some family issues, and I've still managed to make it to at least 3 classes per year. This year I have one left, Pat Rogers in December. I'm looking forward to being at the Kyle Lamb class next year and I'm sure I'll be at several others. I'm very interested in the Carbine Instructor Development.

Hi Rob

Thanks. Coming from you as a well versed student mean a lot.

Randy is the instructor that I have there most as his classes sell out and the repeat students is incredible. More and more people are finding out just how good he is (I saw it ten years ago when he did his first class for me.

It keeps getting better and better. While some ranges are complaining about business and have to cancel classes we just finished our best year and 2010 looks to be even better. I owe it all to the instructors who teach at Southern Exposure.

Thanks for you comments, I know a lot of guys follow what you say and rightly so.
