View Full Version : Help me decide on an Upper

I have an LMT lower sitting around all by its lonesome.

I already have a Noveske N4 Light 14.5 setup and I really like the weight and how it feels.

I am trying to decide if I should go with another 14.5 or go with 16".

Thoughts???

The longer I own them, the more I resent the way a pinned 14.5" barrel limits the configuration of my rifles. But I like to tinker. If you don't foresee a need to reconfigure your rifle and are married to the idea of having a barrel just barely over the legal limit for non-NFA config, go for the 14.5".

If you're going to go 16" use a mid-length gas system. That said I was "brought up" on M4s in the Army so to me the only thing that looks "right" is a 14.5". I too like how a 14.5" handles and the ballance, but I would say if you've already got a N4 then why not go that little bit extra and drop the $200 and get an SBR? If you like a 14.5 than you will love a 10.5, trust me. ;)

I have an N4 carbine and an N4 lite recce upper. Love 'em both. But if ya got either one, for a second, I'd look to an 18" SPR.

cant have sbr's in my state.

Dont know much about what the 18" offers besides added length which gives me longer shooting distance.

WHat else?? What weight ammo is recommended for that length...

Well, in my case thus far, I don't even want to consider dealing with NFA issues. So I think longer vs shorter. My N4's are sick accurate and with a nice carbine in hand, I'd be tempted set up a precision SPR upper with nice optics to play long range games. Noveske's are 1:7 so the ammo choices are pretty much the same I should think. The difference would not be great I suppose.

I'm sorry, that's a shame.

I'm thinking..........BCM!! Love mine. Best bang for the buck right now. Super quality and customer support. Refer to THE CHART and you can't go wrong.

YMMV but mine doesn't!

What twist barrel are you looking at? Type of load will also determine what works well for what length. Maybe you can tell us more about what your use for this rifle will be.

I vote BCM middie or Noveske Recon...

I personally like the 16" over the 14.5. For me, I like the fact that I can reconfigure the gas block, handguard, flashhider, etc.. without machine work. The little bit more velocity is a plus. No $200 tax. But like you, no SBR where I am. Even if it was legal, I think I'd still go 16".

Was in the same situation, bought from Bravo Comp. the Noveske 16 inch middy. I think it was $625. No CH, NO BCG, but it is a Noveske. I shot it the other day with a classic A2 stock and it felt very good. Light, comfortable to shoot. My first Middy. It has no notch in the barrel, which I like the looks.

I had an LMT lower with two stage trigger. It needed a little polishing and oil b/c it was sticking on reset. FYI just in case.

+1 BCM middy or a 14.5'' carbine upper with the pinned FH.

No complaints with my BCM middie. There other products look and price well enough to accessorize too.

BCM dropped prices on their uppers yesterday. That's the best deal in town. They have a 14.5" with their pinned A2X extended A2 FH for 469.00 or 16" Middies for 425.00!!!!

strictly speaking, a longer barrel will add velocity. theoretically speaking, a shorter barrel will be more accurate.

long distance shooters will often use a longer barrel to maintain velocity. this has an effect on drop and drift as well as lethality. 18" is a good compromise in this platform...

Opps, corrected. That price was for the hammer forged barrel version.
