I live in Miami andI can't believe that I got my ccw in less than 3weeks. Shipped it out on the 25 of October and I got it yesterday. My ffl said it would take more like 6 months, has anyone got their ccw that fast. I bought a glock 23, sig p229, sig p228 and smith &w sigma. I have been carrying the g 23 so far, I like it.

Buy some bullets too.

Or even complete rounds.

Sell the Sigma for as much ammo as you can get to feed the others. Just saying.

Good on you for getting your ccw so soon. Here in TX we are backlogged on ccw's back to about 90-120 days. Glad I'm LEO but I also keep a current ccw.

+1 about the sigma:eek:. That is a poor copy of the Glock. Next, buy quality carry rig. You may find out that you will buy different rigs for the different modes of carry, i.e. what you wear vs. what/how you conceal carry. Then go to the range and practice, Practice, PRACTICE!!!;)

Hearing about other states CCW wait times makes me proud to be a resident of PA. Allegheny county (pittsburgh area) I sent my app to them 1 week later they sent me a letter telling me to pick up my permit. Showed up with $25 next day and all of 3mins later I am out the door. My freinds live in Westmoreland county, all you have to do is show up at the courthouse with 2 ID's and $25 and you will go home with your permit.

Oh congrats on the guns/permits.

this is what I have been carrying so far. G23 with x300 and g22 magazine in a waist bag. I tried to carry the p229 with x200, but it is too heavy for me because I am a small guy so im getting rid of it gun and light. I am still exploring my options.http://i642.photobucket.com/albums/uu149/kyrin88/06e4c8b3.jpg

Practice practice practice and take some training classes from recognized experts...

Don't forget a good handheld light. You don't want to have to unholster every time you need to use the flashlight.

you lucky bastard. I'm still waiting on TXDPS to send the correct packet that has my military condition so I can send my CHL packet to them.

I decided to use this setup this week. I am going to buy a ton of ammo and go practice my heart out so that I can hopefully gain some instinct. I could probably imagine that all that training goes down the drain when the heat is up, so I want to build an instinct.http://i642.photobucket.com/albums/uu149/kyrin88/f00db4e6.jpg

definitely take some classes. one of the great things about being a beginner is you don't have to un-learn the wrong way before learning the right way. :D
perfect practice makes perfect.

Along with the advice of taking classes, I would personally put a lot of rounds downrange with the light on the G23, .40 Glocks have had some issues with lights.

I think the law in Virginia gives them something like 45 days to process. I got mine in less than a month (but that was several years ago).

Ditto the others re. equipment choices, need for practice, training, etc.

But also, please obtain, read, and seriously ponder works by folks like John Farnam, Massad, Ayoob, and others regarding the legal and ethical implications of the defensive use of lethal force. You need to have your "mind right" on these matters before -- God forbid -- the day ever comes.

And lastly, the best fight is the one you avoided.
