For those of you who will soon be receiving your orders of the “new” IMI M855 and M193 ammunition from Wideners, here is some accuracy and velocity data from the “old” IMI ammunition for comparison.

Velocity data was obtained using an Oehler 35-P chronograph with “proof screen” technology. All velocities listed are muzzle velocities calculated from the instrumental velocities using Oehler’s Ballistic Explorer software program. All strings of fire consisted of 10 shots each. All barrels listed have NATO chambers, chrome lining and 1:7” twists.

Accuracy testing was performed using a free-floated 20" Colt HBAR. The barrel has a 1:7" twist, NATO chamber and is chrome lined. Accuracy testing was conducted from a distance of 100 yards shooting from a bench-rest. A 10-shot control-group fired from this barrel using 55 grain Sierra BlitzKings and had an extreme spread of 1.17". Three 10-shot groups of the IMI M855 were fired in a row with the following extreme spreads:

2.14"
3.01"
1.71"

for a 10-shot group average extreme of 2.29".

Accuracy testing of the IMI M193 was conducted in the same manner as described above. Three 10-shot groups fired in a row had extreme spreads of:

2.24"
2.59"
2.62

for a 10-shot group average extreme spread of 2.48”.
