Now you can get in Bear's survival pants...

Don't laugh, but the two have paired up for a clothing line. Ignoring the fact that Bear's TV shows in the past have often been ah... faked, and that his career in the TA SAS was cut short by a parachuting accident, are these clothes well designed?

The pants do look interesting, but honestly I never had much of a problem with the lightweight BDU pants in harsh environments. But, Craghoppers do make good stuff.

I might get a pair just to test out, but I really hate having his name on them. My British teammates are going to give me a lot of shit over them... lol. Yes, they are probably over priced, but I can deal with that. :)

Funny you mentioned this topic. I was just thinking where I could get a pair. Yes, BG is highly controversial, etc. but he does put his pants through the paces, regularly.
BDUs are worn daily, and have torn regularly. Once torn, worthless. I shall check these out, and see how they do.
Thanks,

Phil

I-Ninja, have you ever considered Mountain Khakis (http://www.mountainkhakis.com/)? I have four pair I use for rough duty and range time. They work well sub 100 degrees F and are tough as nails and being that they are cotton canvas won't melt to your skin. One thing -being that they are canvas you need to buy them a size or two up from normal since they will shrink significantly after several washes (much like a high quality Karate Gi)

I too am intrigued by Bear's high speed low drag pants. I have a pair of old school tournament paintball paints with the same reinforced knees and arse that are ten years old, have been beat to piss and a still usable so I would surely like to give Bear's pants a chance.

Bear may be controversial because some things on his show (if not all) are staged, but I don't really care -it is TV and meant for entertaining people, not necessarily for being 100% real. The man did make it through SAS selection, and did climb Mount Everest. Besides, anyone that can slowly eat some of the gross shit he has, describing it as he munches and then drive on with a smile afterwards is good to go in my book!

As much as I'm digging the pants, I'd feel like a poseur if I walked out in public with those on.

I'm with Iraq Ninja, the shirts and pants are nice but can do without his name on them.

My favorite clip is the one where he tries to get the honey from a bee hive.

Ah but Bear Grylls could probably grind me into paste, so that's good enough for me. I like his TV....it's very entertaining. Not sure about the pants. He was selling cereal not long ago....nice to see he's moving up.

Well I will see your Wil Willis and raise you a Chuck Norris... :)

They do look like paintball pants, I wonder how comfortable they are and if they hold up...

Yes guys, I did the ultimate sacrifice and order a pair to test. Got them a week ago and since did not had the chance to field test them. My impression so far is that they are too nice to be used in the bush and the material feels soft and not sure how durable. They will be perfect if you go for a short walk, but will not trust them in the wild (personal opinion)... Design is cool, lots of pockets all around and the waist fit is very comfortable. The UK length is different from the US I guess as I order regular length and they are like super long for me (more than 4" longer compared to the Regular ACU bottom). The Bear Grylls logos are almost invisible (on on the side pocket and one on the back)...

I just found out why the trousers are longer than usual. I have the 34 Regular but the length is 4" extra, and that bothered me in the beginning. After a little reading I found out that they are designed the extra length to go deep down your boots... and prevent dust or debris from entering your boot. Interesting feature and actually I am planing on testing it very soon... Will keep you posted.

Are these the pants he wore when he was caught catching z's in that hotel room...er...I mean taping his "survival" show? ;)

I cannot comment on the Bear Grylls line. But I can speak for the traditional Craghoppers clothing. It is top notch stuff. I am a real fan of their button up long sleeve shirts. They work in just about all weather conditions and are very rugged.

I've been using these http://www.duluthtrading.com/store/clothes-workwear/mens/mens-pants/95013.aspx?feature=product_3#since xmas and really happy with them. Possible downside would be their weight when wet. Other then that...i'll be buying another pair that is a bit lighter weight, with the reinforced knees.

Got an update on these pants. I recently bought two of them. Material, construction, and fit are great, but then again they are from Craghoppers. I got them on sale for $70, but they are back up to $90 now.

The stretch panels work nicely. I ordered one size larger than normal because I like my pants baggy. Based on this, I suspect my normal size might have been a bit too tight.

This past weekend the pants were worn during a camping trip that included a big Texas thunder storm. Pants were soaked but remained comfortable. They were dry enough at night to sleep in them. In hot humid weather, I go "Ranger" when outdoors and leave the underwear at home. No issues with this.

I found them more comfortable than other well known pants that cost a lot more. I will be bringing them back with me to Iraq, and will report on how they do in extreme heat.

FYI, the NosiLife anti insect treatment worked well and the cloth seems to be mosquito bite proof. I did a lot of walking through thorns and brush and had no issues. The pants look like they are brand new.

I have a pair of these. I love them. I wear them whan I go shooting and when I am on the jod as an EMT. They are a bit pricy at $160.00 but they are very durable and have more pockets than I know what to do with and they have pals/molle on one side for my holser or fisrt in pouch when Im on the job. I thought they were a bit wide in the cuff when I got them so I had the cuff narrowed to meet My Uncle Sam provided ACU's now the blouse nicely. The only draw back is they only come in these two colors.
The jackets are nise as well I have a MK1

While we're on the subject of Craghoppers, anyone know anything about, or have an opinion on, their convertible pants? It appears the only difference is that the Kiwi (http://www.us.craghoppers.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product3_14552_26766_-1_132052_13052) is the basic while the NosiLife (http://www.us.craghoppers.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_14552_-1_135853_13052) has bug repellent?

I have only seen them, and never used them. Same quality and build like my Gillis pants. I suspect that the permanent bug and bacteria protection will not last forever as claimed.

My only suggestion with Craghoppers is to order two sizes larger if you like baggy clothes.

I have a pair of Kitanica shorts. While the design is very good, the use of the same old cotton blend fabric is its weakpoint. There are so many better fabrics out now...

Haha. Star Trek was no-shit the first thing that popped up in my head as soon as I saw his face after the sting in that clip.

I use the Filson line of clothing and I can't seem to wear them out.
I use the single and double tin pants for everything, the double tin
bibs for riding a quad through the brush and woods, my quad is
pretty scratched up but the pants still look very good. They don't
have the tacticool pockets and straps but they do blend in the woods
and the local restaurant where you look like the local loggers.
I plan on buying a tin packer coat prior to the next winter, I have a
green shelter cloth packer coat that is 4 years old now and just about broken in. It is my everyday winter coat, and without a liner has kept
me warm and dry.Made in America if that means anything to you.
