Did a search but did not find the results I was looking for so I thought Id ask.
Are there any reviews on the Middy length VIS? Photos of those who have them?
I dont see them much and was curious as to how well they performed and stood up to punishment.
Any advantages over to the MRP or simply installing a rail like the DD lite rail which essentially gives you the same idea of a connected top?

The VIS is a fantastic system. You won't see many pics of them as they tend to be rare.

The VIS gives you a lot rigidity and ease of mounting optics (especially if you want them in the dead center of the weapon).

I'm happy with mine, but don't have enough rounds down range to say hard use yet. Since it's a Noveske though I'm sure it's tougher then I am.:o

She came in at 10.4 lbs as pictured. and yes the mount is dead center.

I always wanted a VIS for at 12.5 SBR but could never find one so I got a MUR instead and will use a DD Lite Rail.

My mouth begins to water everytime I see the Vltor VIS... My lpan is to build an SPR based on a rifle length VIS and Noveske SPR Barrel... I can dream can't I? lol

I'd love to pick up a VIS but MAN they're expensive! Heck, if middy isn't a requirement it'd cheaper to get a 6940 upper.

main advantage over the MRP is that you can use the barrel of YOUR choice, not LMT's

I am waiting for the VIS-2A. What lower best matches the VIS, fit and finish wise?

VIS-2A?? I love my VIS, should I be lusting after something new??

I like my VIS-2. It's not a QD sort of system like some others, but it's a hell of a lot easier to assemble into an upper than a regular upper.

Every once and a while I suddenly remember that I can put an optic where ever I want; it's easy to forget.

They're not really out of line, price wise, if you compare them to a billet upper and high quality FF rail.

oh silly me. I do have a -2, I forgot they used that nomenclature for the lengths...

Thanks for the responses guys. I really appreciate it.
theJanitor: True, that flexibility is a huge advantage IMHO.

That was one of the reasons I selected the VIS over a LMT. The LMT would have actualy been cheaper then the Noveske.

the -2 and -2A differ in length by an inch. the 2 is the midlength (9" handguard) and 2A is the extended midlength (10"). -1 is carbine (7") and -3 is rifle (12").

Going back to my question, which lower best matches the VIS in fit and finish? Thanks.

On the new forged VIS uppers I would say I decent forged lower, they will have a more matte finish than most billet lowers

I love my VIS upper but it hasn't gotten anywhere near the use of my Colt so maybe I baby it too much. In retrospect I would have dedicated it as an SPR with a stainless Noveske barrel instead of the N4 barrel I did chose.

Does anyone have the weights for a plain upper receiver plus rail? I'm curious how the VIS compares to an upper+rail...

I don't have the exact figures, but IIRC I asked that question before and the answer I got was that length being equal, the VIS was slightly lighter since it didn't have all the attaching hardware.

I'm a big fan of the VIS, with my favorite being the 2A on a 16" barrel.

For some reason I thought the VIS would turn out heavier, but I hadn't thought about mounting hardware. Interesting. Now we need a bored part-collecting type to confirm. :p

Nice Stick! Great photos and weapons as usual. I too would prefer the 2A for my planned build.

Stick... Your photo's make me drool... both in the items they depict, and in appreciation as a fellow photoropher... I don't even hold it against you that you shoot with Canon...

Nikon FTW! lol

Add up the expense of a billet upper, and a high-quality handguard, and the costs are comparable. Because you get both with a VIS.

Wes,

Please, details and specs on that build. It looks very light.

Wes,

It weighs 6lbs. 14 oz. as shown.

It has a VIS-2 midlength upper, CMMG 14.5" lightweight barrel with VIS low-profile gas block, and TA50 3X compact ACOG. The front and rear BUIS are PRI and add a few ounces of weight.

Here is mine:

Unfortunately I left my SLR at an acquaintances so my pictures are even shittier then normal. I am no Stickman, but the indoor flourescent lighting doesn't help either.

She's a 14.5" Noveske N4 VIS Basic upper, permy attached Vortex for length requirements. I added the Magpul CTR, MIAD, ladder covers, and a tango down stubby grip. The sling is something I devised myself from what used to be a Spec Ops brand sling, which I chopped up and turned into a 2pt bungie sling with pull-adjuster at the front.

The weapon light is a Surefire 660 Classic series with old style Tape switch + constant on rocker tailcap, which is an excellent switching option. I just bought a Surefire L72 Laser unit so I am swapping out the existing mount on that surefire 660 Classic for the LT-607 double barrel light mount. The tape switch is attached via Velcro to a KAC rail panel I stippled , and relieved a rectangular cutout for the hook side of the velcro

Edit: I messed around with the levels some and got a decent profile shot:

I have a T1 in a LT mount on my christmas wishlist :P

Perhaps when the sun peaks its head out I will take a few pictures with decent lighting that show off the rest of the angles, but she is a nice shooter!
