I observed that when the upper is removed, and a magazine is entered into the lower, there is a play, I measured the magwell inner dimension and it is 2.420 x .906. Are these the right measurements?

Most mags will have a little play in the magwell, better than to tight IMO as you want the mag to drop free when you hit the mag release.
