The SCAR is going to be our next rifle. I tested the standard SCAR-H and both sniper and CQB variant of the SCAR-L. Some more refinements are going to be made on the ergonomics, but it is a robust and well-designed weapon. In it's original form I hated it, but FN has really taken to the feedback given in the trials and made some good improvements to the original design. I have pics at the house of all the SOPMOD II stuff, as well as the SCAR. I will put them up tomorrow when I get home.

New KAC and ARMS BUIS. The new KAC one is a good sight, it's gonna sell millions...if KAC will sell them.

M4Guru, thank you for the outstanding pictures. I think many of us are getting our first looks at some of these items.

Very interesting to say the least.

Very nice. I'm gonna start saving money for a civilian model right now. Have you heard anything about a 6.8 version?

Thanks,

It will never happen. Crane does not support the 6.8 in any way shape or form and they are the gov't representative in making the SCAR happen.

FN could make a civilian version, technically, but I don't know if they will bother.

Rumor has it that SOCOM finally agreed to a final configuration.

That means production will be moved stateside shortly. :D

What exactly is the "PEQ-2 replacement"?

I saw one recently but I had no idea what I was looking at.

Not M4Guru, but...

The one in the photo above is the ATPIAL (Advanced Target Pointer/Illuminator/Aiming Laser), and has the following features:
-Uses a single DL123 (3V Lithium) battery
-Focusable IR pointer that is boresight adjustable
-Visible (red) and IR aiming laser on the same optical bench (i.e. both are zeroed at the same time; a handy feature that allows you to pre-set zero without NODs)
-The IR laser, Vis laser, and IR illuminator all have high and low settings, if I remember correctly
-Integrated Picatiny rail mount

Hope this helps,
Clint

Something I find interesting about the pics of the Elcan Specter. Why do you need a Dr/JPoint on a 1X optic?

FWIW - when I saw it Insight was still calling it the IPIM -- it had the same features Clint mentions -plus adjustable pulse settings for the lasers - so you know who's who in the zoo

My only line of thinking is if you have the unexpected need to use it close up while at 4X.

Roger. You can still take a close shot with it on 4X though.

It does seem like over-kill, but who am I to question the Pro's? I bet the price of a Elcan Specter w/Dr/JPoint is damn near as high as a S&B Short Dot.

Yeah, I was reaching for even that answer...:D
It does not make much sense to me.

Dinger, I'm guessing $1800 with the Docter. I don't know if that will be civilian pricing, that was just a rough quote I got.

Where I was going with my question, is that the folks in the Military that are reviewing this optic had the same problem that I did with the 1X setting.

An Elcan with a Dr would be VERY close to the price of a S&B.

One thing about the Elcan is that, on 1x, it is not like an AIMPOINT because it does not have infinite eye relief. It is more like a S&B or Nightforce 1-4x.

The SCAR rocks and is easily my favorite assault rifle. I liked the original version just fine but there are some nice changes. It is very controllable as is the 7.62mm version, and it is easy to hit cars at 100 meters with the 40mm launcher.

Silvers- F*** you for having access to BOTH versions!!! :D

Now that I got that out of the way-

Explain to me what features that KAC BUIS has that I can't seem to figure out myself. I see all sorts of improvements over my 300m, but I don't know what they are!

Not M4Guru or coldblue but I have a little experience with this sight, or the first version of it anyway ;)

The little lever on the "stem" (the part that flips up) moves 90 degrees to select the aperture size... No more little plastic insert to lose.

The lever on the base can be used to lock the stem in the "up" (deployed) position, and is also a release that allows it to flip-up under spring pressure, and stay up if bumped with gear, etc.

Hope this helps,
Clint

Are you asking how the KAC 600 meter differs from the KAC 300 meter?

It has a micrometer for elevation. No big deal. Honestly, they are BACK UP SIGHTS. I am perfectly happy with the KAC 300 meter. I would never make any effort to replace my KAC 300 meters with 600 meters unless I really wanted the rifle for more than 300 meters. Even so, it is a backup sight.

SuicideHz
08-06-06, 01:20
Thanks Robert. I meant both version of the SCAR to play with.

I was asking about the new KAC BUIS. I obviously wasn't asking the difference between the 300 and 600. Even as superior as you are, you should understand that stupid me might know the difference and that I might be asking about the NEW one pictured here. But, take any opportunity you can to point out how stupid I might be...

I really dont think roberts intent was to be Condescending. Its sometime hard to get someones meaning over the net when not face to face. I honestly believe he was intending to be helpful.

so you callin me stupid now??

No I've talked to robert in person on the phone and on line and think I've gotten a feel for how to read what he says.

Sometimes I'm not sure how to take something he said till I ask and he explains furter what he meant or where he is comming from.

Some people are easier to read then other by nature.

No, I'm not calling you stupid.

I just didn't know if you knew his reputation. I figured you may be a lucky guy who's never been in the middle of the misunderstandings.

The smiley is because I'm constantly in this situation with him.

I was kicked off of the other site after he called me stupid and I called him a liar. I'm a little overly sensitive when he responds to me, that's all.

LOL no worries I wasn't really thinkin you were calling me stupid. I just know Robert and know he can be taken wrong there have been several time when he was joking about stuff and it went right by me I though he was serious. I think he can definatly be taken wrong sometimes. I also know that I've been misunderstood online and offended people when it was never the intent.
