I've been having a discussion about the effectiveness of various self defense rounds with my brothers and I am trying to convince them that two shots with xxx caliber isn't always enough. To back this up I've been looking, without success, for the reports of people being shot numerous times with a 9mm, 45ACP or whatever else and not stopping. Do any of you have these reports saved or have easy access to them? If so, please post them.

Thanks.

Here's a few. Suggest you do more research for yourself regarding the details.

Charlie Beckwith took a 12.7 round to the chest and was triaged as expectant. He went onto continue his career as a SF officer and later started SFODD.

Mickey Block took over a dozen rounds from .50 BMG and lived.

Michael Platt took a non-survivable 9mm to the chest and went on to wound 4 and kill 2 FBI agents (wounded 2 agents prior to being wounded himself).

Stacy Lim was shot by a bad guy while off duty, the round "nicked the lower portion of her heart, damaged her liver, destroyed her spleen, and exited through the center of her back, still with enough energy to penetrate her vehicle door, where it was later found"

It is not the size of the round that makes it effective. Just like others have posted above. There are numerous instances that people have died for wounds that were survivalable and there have been people that the lived through wounds that should have killed them. A persons will to live can make all the difference.

Just to be clear, I am not trying to convince them that one caliber is better than another, I am just trying to get them to think about the fact that if they ever have to shoot in self defense, two rounds out of a .45 may not be enough. They seem to think that a couple rounds to the chest will always be instant death so I am looking for reports that show otherwise.

Thanks for the responses so far. Lots of good information.
