I have mentioned before that I have one .45 caliber pistol which is an upgraded XD tactical. I was in the market for a platform with more longevity behind it. I didnt want to tinker with another 1911 but I still wanted something a but higher on the totem pole.
I have always wanted an HK and really wanted an HK45 but the ones I was able to find via PPT were upwards of 1300.00... I turned my attention back to the USP and was able to get the tactical or full size versions in the price range between 750.00 and 900.00 depending on the place. This is for a bone stock pistol with 2 mags.
During my search I was contacted privately(out of the blue) and offered a pretty sweet deal from a guy who had an "extra"....
I was able to talk him into taking 675.00 for a very lightly used(250 rds) desert tan USP45 with 3 mags, night sights and aftermarket rail adapter.

Seems to me like this was a good investment.

I carried one for a while. HK is a great choice, in my opinion, whereas its accurate and reliable. It is big, though.

I was lucky to carry mine cocked and locked, and would recommend the same. Otherwise you have a long trigger pull with the larger grip. Either way, you have a reliable gun.

HKs are great.

It is the variant 1 with the decocker so that is definately how I will roll.
Its robust grip does not bother me since I am transitioning from a seemingly more robust XD grip.

I wish the HK had a little bit more of a beavertail on the backstrap. That is my only gripe. However, the recoil mitigation thats inherent with the pistol may negate the need for an extended beavertail. It would still be more comfortable but thats a small thing.

$1300 for an HK45? Both of mine were less than $900 each.

HK45,

Hk45s have gone up a bunch. I bought mine for $925 when they first came out. I haven't seen one less than $1000 around here. But that price does seem steep!

HKUSP is a tank. Not as popular since it was one of the first gen poly guns that stressed insane durability over ergos. Great gun for the apocalypse!

"Insane durability" is what pulled me into the HK realm anyway. Its good to know Ihave a tank that is apocalypse approved.

The HK45 is not DOJ approved here and is only available thru private party transfer. These guys know what they have and set the bar high becuase they know there is no other way to get it.
I hope to get an HK45 once some things fall into play. My brother will be finished with the academy and will be able to access such unobtaniums.
Either way, this USP is a good starting point.

Good purchase. I hate shooting USP's, but the tan framed USP has always been a beauty in my book. Don't tell anyone, but I like the gray ones too. :)

Congrats on the new gun. I much prefer the HK45 but not for $1300. You can add the Match Trigger with over-travel stop for a noticeable difference over the stock trigger.

I love my USP 45. I have a GG&G rail on my with a Surefire X200, night sights and it's my "Night stand gun."

Congrats on the USP. I'm sure you'll be happy with the gun and it will serve you well.

Are you close to Los Angeles? If you are, maybe we can meet up at a range.

Thanks all!!! I have yet to see a naysayer!!! It seems to me that the only gripe some have is the grip size and maybe the stock trigger.

Lou, I am near LA.... I normally shoot on BLM or USFS land....
Maybe you can join the southern California(aka San Diego)regional training group.
January will be the start of a good thing ;).....

Wow! Thanks for the invite! I'd love to tag along sometime. Mind sending me some info?

I've owned two USP's and both were bomb proof. One was a used USP 45 full sized that I refused to clean trying to induce a malfunction but it ran like a Timex. Awesome pistols.

I've owned quite a few USP .45s...great guns. My favorite being the Tactical. Enjoy.

Did not know that. I know they are harder to find these days so I assumed they must be more popular. You would think they would be cheaper with the U.S factory online.

One would think so but the HK45 and HK45c actually went up in price soon after the guns started being assembled here.

If you have not purchased this yet (I haven't read the thread so please excuse me if I'm late) try Jim's Firearms in Baton Rouge, LA. There is an HK45 that was brought back due to the guy running into financial difficulties (lost his job). It was purchased no more than 1.5 months prior to him bringing it back. I wish like Hell I could have chanced upon this guy prior to walking into the store as I would have snatched it up myself. I think he's asking $899 (which is still high since it's still "used"). Not sure what he charges to ship but it may be worth googling them for their phone number and ask for Jim.

I could probably get a "used" HK45 for under a grand but the problem is they are not CA DOJ approved and they are only available to LEO's/.MIL or thru private party transfer. I can go into the gun shop here and fondle them all day but until my brother gets a badge I will be patiently waiting. At least he will get it at LEO cost and can then turn around and sell it to me without hiking the price up to the moon... Thats the plan, for now.
