View Full Version : Magpul, new product announcement inside!

First off I want to thank everyone for understanding our position on minimizing the release of info on NEW and upcoming products. We’ve been working like mad men on several new products while publicly flying under the radar about their development. During the coming weeks leading into SHOT Show, Magpul will be releasing several NEW products that have been under development over the past several months. In addition to these there will be several additional NEW products that will be announced at SHOT Show in January.

So, the first of many products to be announced I give you the………

AFG (Angled ForeGrip)

• Retail price $34.95

• Available colors Black, Flat Dark Earth, OD Green and Foliage Green

• Timeline, available in mid December
http://i839.photobucket.com/albums/zz314/Magpul_Industries/AFG_9.jpg

The AFG falls into the category of “Theory Based" products. Simply put, these products are designed to enhance weapon performance and user interface beyond what is currently available. Because these products do not simply replace an existing weapon component, there is an understanding with Theory Based Products that simple plug and play doesn’t apply. They require education by way of instructions, training, and familiarization with the product to become proficient, and only then will the benefits be realized. In addition to the AFG, other products in this category are the B.A.D. Lever, MS2, and ASAP.

The primary difference between the AFG and standard vertical foregrips is weapon controllability. This is a direct result of hand position, grip style and body mechanics. Below is a detailed description of the Theory behind the AFG.

All filled up Fellas. Thanks.

In an effort to receive feedback from the general population on the AFG Magpul would like to offer a T&E AFG to the first 30 posters in this thread. All we ask for in return is that you install the AFG, give it a shot and post pics and opinions on the AFG in the forum. If you’re one of the first 30 posters in this thread and are interested in receiving a free sample and are willing to report on your thoughts send an email to ========= containing the following;

•Actual name
•Address to ship
•Screen name
•email address
•phone number

If the above info is not sent you're name will be removed from the list and the next runner up will have a lucky day. VFG's will be shipping to the participants with in two weeks.

Be warned, if we send you an AFG and you do not post your opinion and pics I will create a voodoo doll and smash it with a pillow.

As a side note, the AFG is the first forward grip we’ve seen that may be used on an AK and not interfere with mag changes due to the low profile. I tried this out at the range the other day with my AK and it was fantastic! AK guys are going to dig this.

What a concept: modern weapon components designed with biomechanics in mind.

Outstanding idea. Good on you guys at Magpul for doing this.

Edit: K, 'cause I can't leave well enough alone. Does the AFG require that your arm be fully extended? I have fairly long arms, and if this is going on a carbine or shorter rifle then it would be next to impossible to have full arm extension. This makes me wonder if you have enough grip on the weapon for the AFG to serve as a reference and your support hand thumb would 'clamp' down on the 3 o' clock or 9 o' clock rail (for a lefty or righty, respectively), and if doing so would defeat the purpose of the grip.

Interesting idea. I've got an MI AK rail with a light at 9 o'clock. This looks like it might work in lower my hand and put my thumb in line with the light better instead of above it. I'll be interested to see where this product goes.

Wow, I've actually been debating building something like this for a while. To bad I missed the beta test.

My 2cents worth is a smoother version without finger grips would give you a nice platform for shooting off barriers/bags etc. much like a tapered forend on a MCM A2. You could raise/lower by moving the rifle forwards/backwards. Looks like you'd be getting hung up as it is now.

Despite all the bitching from the community about vaporware. Getting info to the community as soon as posible will give you more feedback and help make better products.

Innovative...

Ever since I saw the stance that is being taught by Magpul Dynamics I wondered if and when they would come up with some sort of fore grip.

One thing is for certain, with that price point they won't be able to keep them in stock.

This is one of the only magpul products I am not sure about. It isn't a bad product I am just not sure if it will fit my shooting style. That being said, I still intend to try one out and see how it works for me.

Hmmm Wait. What is up with that CTR stock on that gun. It that a new camo scheme or a custom job?

I was on the fence with the idea too. Then I held a rifle with the AFG. It is such a natural, intuitive feeling. I really dig it. My shooting style adapted to the product. If anything, the AFG helped me get the right positioning on the rifle without thinking about it a lot (I am not what you might call a seasoned AR shooter, my background was in sporting clays and other shotgun fun) Try it out, I know you'll love it.

So is a tape switch enabled light more important with the AFG than before? Why do I ask? Won't one of the benefits of the AFG be keeping your hand in the same place? That leads me to believe, without having used one yet, that the benefits of keeping your hand in the same place would make activating the light on an offset mount a bit more difficult.

Thoughts?

Don't think so stay with clicky cap with thumb. This will also help in reach the clicky with opposite hand, if light is up high enough.

Let me make it perfectly clear. Our intent is not to replace your VFG with an AFG. Our intent is to bring a new concept to market, push the boundaries of design and fill a void in the forward grip market. Some might argue that we're creating the "void" and this is all a marketing hype product. Have we ever done that with any product? We will continue to stand by our products and the theories behind them.

Fan Boys;

We have fan boys and hey, hats off, we love them. But don't ever think we build products for the FB's. They want the best products money can buy just like Mil, LE, casual shooters and competition shooters. Can you blame them? We build real world, high quality, boundary pushing kit period. No hype, no BS.

Are people really bitching about the AFG?

Hell, the weekend before this thread was posted, I dropped $85 on a stubby VFG. And to think those dirty "void makers" at Magpul were going to release an option for waaaaay less than that. Dirty dirty Magpul and their innovation and cheap prices! (sarcasm by the truckload, btw.)

People will gripe about nearly anything on the internet... even a free lunch. Don't let 'em get to ya. Just keep making cool stuff with good logic behind it and I'll keep buying it. I'm not sure how much Magpul stuff you have to have to be considered a fanboi, but my rifles are decked out in the stuff. I coulda bought something different, but the first set of Magpul stuff I bought worked great, I didn't see a reason to try anything else.

I love your stuff!

If you give some people free pie, there will always be a few that complain that they didn't get ice cream with it.

Drake- Does Travis let out an evil scientist "Mu-hu-huu-haaa" laugh when he comes up with these things?

Once you meet Travis in person and listen to his "cross-training" between combat and competition combined with his study of biomechanics and you'll understand where MS2, ASAP and AFG come in. This is not big chrome rims on a chevette.

Kudos to Magpul for keeping prices real. You guys do a nice job of coming up with cutting edge stuff at Wal-mart prices, all made here in the US. No disrespect to the KAC guys, but their version would have been $200.

A question on light placement? With the AFG, for a right handed person, where would you suggest putting a tail cap light? For reference, where do you guys run your lights with the AFG?

And if you give them ice cream, then they will bitch about the color of the cherry on top.....

Everything I have ever bought from Magpul has been worth the wait and the price.

(and this is coming from a man that stretches a dollar until the eagle screams)

LOL - nothing like you guys busting your asses for 20 years, and then becoming an "overnight success", huh? ;)

Ha! As I was reading your comment I couldn't help but think of Sméagol and Gollum:

Gollum: "Too risky, Too risky. Thieves! They stole It from us. Kill them, kill them, kill them both!"

Gollum: "Shhh! Quiet! Mustn't wake them! Mustn't ruin it now!"

Sméagol: "But they knows! They knows! They suspects us!"

Gollum: "What's it saying, my precious, my love? Is Sméagol losing his nerve?"

Sméagol: "No! Not! Never! Sméagol hates nasty hobbitses! Sméagol wants to see them… dead!"

:D

I'm buying an AFG when it comes out! If Grant or Rainier had a waiting list, I'd be on it.

Crap! I've been bitching and moaning about having to pay for a stubby to half ass do just this! (I'm a 260 lb gorilla so the little "hand stops" are not an option.) Now I missed my chance to T&E what appears to be JUST what I wanted all along! Esp since I just threw a ODG MOE hand gaurd on my carbine.

Anyone getting a list together to prepay order these?

Ok, so maybe I'm a Kool-aid drinker but, the folks at Magpul never cease to amaze me.

I own a couple of products and will be buying more. As you guys know, the quality is awesome but what is equally engaging about the company is the obvious approachability of the folks that work there, the demeanor of Chris and Travis in the delivery of training (I've only seen the vids but liked how they engage the students) and the fact that these guys are on these forums showcasing new goods and seeking the opinions of the folks who field their products.

Magpul stuff works, it's high quality and the staff are top notch.:)

Great job, guys!

Piss on all those haters! We the fan boys buy good quality equipment. If they keep making gear that works and last, then why not buy it. I do not own everything they have made because it does meet my needs or I do not need it. But if I does, then I buy it.

Keep it up Magpul.

Has anybody seen or heard who made the list for the T&E?????????????????

Any word on the T&E people yet? If I'm one of the T&E folks, I'm looking at signing up for a Carbine class specifically to test it out. I guess I'll just start saving my pennies until I find out otherwise.

Alright Fellas. I just received confrimation that all sample AFG's were shipped yesterday. Most of you should receive them by Friday with some of the local guys taking delivery today. PO box address will arrive Sat or Mon.

Per the instructions in the original thread http://m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=42414 please let us know what you think of the AFG in this thread.http://m4carbine.net/showthread.php?p=518852#post518852 Pics would be great. I don't expect guys to instantly dump info. Post in here that you have received the package and give yourself a chance to make it to the range and try it out. If you can't make it to the range try some dry drills in your man space. All comments are welcome good, bad or ugly. Thanks guys.

got mine today.

I was going to try it on my MOE handguards but my rail pices havent arrived yet.

It doesnt fit on my RRA half-quad FFT on my middy, its too long for the rail, hits the curved handguard portion before the front has cleared the bayo lug.

My first impression is actually that it is much thicker than I expected.

Once I get the rails on the MOE I'll post about it in the proper thread.

Ok Magpul, here is a suggestion:

How about a version of this that bolts directly to the MOE with little nubbs that match the holes in the bottom of the MOE for a solid lock-up?

No rail required!

sounds great, and the sides could blend in, doesnt look like thats gonna happen from here.

or...................

a bottom MOE handguard that has the AFG built in :D

Can someone please verify that you can mount the AFG further back on the rail? The AFG is not restricted to being at the very front of the gun's rail, correct?

bradb55
12-19-09, 08:42
You can place it anywhere on the rail. It doesn't have to be so foreward, but feels better foreward for me.

How much farther back do you want it to go the AFG takes up a quite a bit of rail space. I have mine installed on a carbine KAC ras I has 2 slots left to go farther back.
