...and who "they" is?

I'm talking about things like IDPA, IPSC, etc. with the die-cut shapes and the perforated scoring zones. I'd like to research having a custom run done but I'm not exactly sure who to talk to. I'd prefer to go straight to the source, even if I ultimately have to buy from a retailer, for discussions about the possibilities and an education on how they are made so I can better understand the process and potential costs.

Not intending to hijack the thread but on a similar note. Does anyone know where to obtain targets like those used in Magpul Dynamics' Art of the Tactical Carbine DVD series? The specific targets I am interested in are the silhouettes with the smaller colored shapes/numbers on the perimeter.

It's possible someone from EAG or 10-8 performance might be able to answer the question posed by both of you. They were offering their own target at one point (not sure if they still do), and I'm pretty certain it included numbered areas/shapes.

LE and Target Barn are, AFAIK, retailers not manufacturers. I have dealt with both and am happy with both, but I'm looking to go to the source, at the very least for information purposes even if I wind up buying through one of them.

Also, to be clear, I'm looking for cardboard here, not paper.

Doesn't Blackwater, er, I mean USTC, manufacture targets and target systems?

They custom produced the targets for my agency. So for us they are the "producer," regardless they should be able to facilitate any help needed.

LE Targets, to the best of my knowledge, does produce its own cardboard targets. So does National Target in Maryland, and a few other places. Getting a custom cardboard target made is generally going to involve a fairly hefty set-up charge for the dies (probably four figures) and then a commitment to purchase x-number (again probably four figures) of the targets.

It is far less expensive to have your own paper targets made. Enough so that it's genuinely worth considering whether a paper target can serve your needs.

Look into corrugated packaging manufactures in your area. They most likely have the die press and can give you a ball park figure on die price and cost per target.

That's pretty much what I assume, but I want to know rather than assume and so am looking to go to the "horse's mouth" so to speak. Additionally, what I want is an embellishment of an existing die-cut backer so I'm hoping that will help ease the pain.

Rob,
Try these guys out http://www.americantargetcompany.com/. I have bought some targets from them in the past and I know they make their own. I don't have a particular contact since it's been about two years since I bought from them but it's a start.

Could be. I was just going off the info on their website.

Our specialty is manufacturing the highest quality cardboard targets used in various action-shooting disciplines and police training. These targets are all made from brand new sheets of corrugated board; not the recycled cardboard boxes used by some competitors. New corrugated board offers better strength in severe weather or rough handling, and produces cleaner holes for easier scoring. All targets are boxed to reduce the chance of damage during shipping.

We are licensed to produce targets for the following organizations, and pay them a royalty on each target sold:

United States Practical Shooting Association

International Defensive Pistol Association

National Rifle Association of America

International Association of Law Enforcement Firearms Instructors

Look up laser cutting in your area. You should be able to have this done for cheap.

Rob, I'm not sure what your intent is with this project, but I can pretty much guarantee it will be cost prohibitive unless you 1) order mid-five figure quantities, ideally six figures; and/or 2) source manufacturing off shore, which requires large volume. From my experience, if you only order a few thousand your cost will be at least as the retail price from other companies, maybe more (even double).

Might try a place like this, not sure if they would do it but it seems they should be able to.
