Hello all,

I have a friend in CF that is soon up for deployment, and I am looking to get him a great gift for the holidays -- something that will be of great use once he's in the field, or taking his time around on base.

For all of you who have served recently, what are some of things that you would suggest - or really could have used that weren't in your kit - for when you were in service? Any and all suggestions would be great. And to those who serve(d), I thank you all and wish you a happy holiday.

Kindest Regards,

M

Never been in the military but I know sending packages during the year they are there is more important. Even if you spend less for each package so you can send them more often will make it better. Well this is what I was told by my friends that were there.

A PSP to kill time, a very comfortable pair of boots, and a Magpul BAD.

All good ideas. Other ideas:

A portable HD filled with movies (a lifesaver when waiting for flights, etc.)
any good paperbacks (same idea)
Crocs (lifesavers when walking from room to shower, etc.)
any kinds of gear stuff like Benchmade, Fenix, Magpul gear, etc. is always nice.

YES CROCS, say what you will about their looks but they are 100X better than the black shower shoes :D

A laptop is also helpful. You can watch movies, play games, watch training films (when times are hard), as well as chat and email. A cheap cellphone that works with the Asia cell system is also useful if your Joe is going to Iraq. I don't know if there is a reliable cell system in Afghanistan but then again there was a soldier who accidentally dialed home during a fire fight. Don't you hate when that happens.
