I hope I'm posting this in the correct section. I was wondering if some of you guys could help me out with weights of various parts in oz. and lbs. I want to keep the aluminum upper and lower but was wanting to know weight on some other various parts to possibly lighten my M4. As it sits now, I'm at 7.6 lbs with no red dot.

I'll pull my current parts and get weights and update with info posted.

All weights are with receiver extention tubes, from Magpul's website:
Magpul UBR: 1.56lb = 25oz
Magpul ACS: 1.16lb = 18.56oz
Magpul CTR: .98lb = 16oz
Magpul MOE: .82lb = 13.12oz

According to Eotech's website:
EoTech 511: 8.8oz
EoTech 512: 11.5oz
Eotech XPS: 8.8oz

According to Aimpoint's website:
Aimpoint T1: 3.7oz with mount
Aimpoint M2: 7.1oz (no mount)
Aimpoint M3: 7.8oz + 1.7oz (rubber cover) (no mount)
Aimpoint M4: 9.3oz (no mount), 11.8oz (integrated mount)

I dont know if it includes batteries tho, so add an half ounce or ounce perhaps. One important thing to pay attention to is the balance of the gun. Youd want center of mass to be near the center of the gun or slightly rear biased. Since your dominant hand is usally at the trigger, you can rear bias it since the dominant hand is stronger. A balanced gun can make it feel lighter, but an unbalanced gun can make a gun feel heavier Choosing the right buttstock, VFG position, optic position, can greatly help balance and make it "feel" lighter. A front heavy gun will make it feel a lot heavier for the support hand and it makes you fatigue faster. Have to make each arm work equally in supporting the gun.

Magpul ACS stock really balances 16" govt profile uppers very well. My stepdad has a BCM Midlength govt profile and 12" Larue rail with an ACS and the balance feels perfect. I have a delton middy upper (HBAR) and a Magpul UBR stock on it, and the balance is good on that as well. The ACS made the delton feel front heavy.

I have read about balance and thought about a pencil barrel and MOE combo. I could drop 5.4 oz. just switching to a MOE stock. Curious on M4 contour to a pencil barrel?

Thanks for the reply and the info you posted.

my 14.5 inch M4 barrel with a phantom flashider is lighter than my 16 inch pencil barrel with an A1 flash hider. I think it's only a couple of oz if I figured it accurately.
