And people wonder why we don't deal in Taurus!

Exhibit A:

Me thinks they ask the owner of said firearm to pay shipping back to Taurus for 'free' repair due to their 'lifetime warranty'....

FWIW the box indicates this is supposed to be a 2" gun.

Wow. Now THAT is some quality you can depend on.

My guess is whatever is sticking out of the end of the barrel is not suppose to be there. I feel bad for the owner but I still had to laugh at that picture.

Ok I'm sorry, but WTF happened there?

Appears to me that they did not finish machining the barrel for the snubby profile. They more than likely use barrel blanks of a certain length that are then machined down to the proper size on a lathe. This one appears to have been prematurely taken off the lathe (more than likely because of some sort of malfunction with the machine...it happens) and thrown into the parts bin with barrels that had been machined. I don't know Taurus' production process, but I'd wager that thing had to go through several more manufacturing steps before leaving the factory...and either nobody caught it or nobody cared.

I can understand how such a part would get into line for assembly, but I cannot understand how the person(s) responsible for finishing and final assembly would let that go out the door unless they really just didn't give a flying squirrel what they put out. A testament to Taurus' commitment to quality.

Just guessing that do to the 1968 GCA that these are imported as 3" guns and then machined to 2" in Miami but thats just a wild ass guess.

Good call. I've been wondering when they would finally come out of the shitty gun closet.

I think that should be put on permanent display..as a reason not to buy a Taurus, The folks at the factory clearly don't give a rat's ass..So this begs the question, Why would you buy a firearm, that was built poorly, with lousy Q.C. by people who don't care??

It's a transfer firearm. I do beleive we were the first dealer to actually open the box at log in time. The large interweb dealer (rhymes with duds guns) didn't appear to have inspected it.

You may be on to something. I remember reading a article about how Glock imports their subcompacts with adjustable rear sights in order to get enough points to import, and then take them off after they get into the states.

We got one here in AZ too. We were going to take pictures but called the distributor and he said it wasnt uncommon.

Its importable that way. The end of ours was crowned too.

I still can't believe this left the factory like this - let alone 2 of them. In my mind this definitively answers the "Should I buy a Taurus?" question...

so they import them exactly as it's photographed above, then chop off the extra barrel once it's here.

so all they did was forget to chop the barrel off this one.... i'm not a defender of taurus, but that's really not that bad of a mistake. all that takes is one person ****ing up and sticking the box in the wrong pile.

I would think (and I could be wrong) that they get it as a complete, ready to sell 3" and chop off the third inch entirely. What you are seeing is a barrel part way through the chopping process and then just pushed on through the system.

Either way, it's not just one guy, or at least it shouldn't be (for instance, it wasn't when I last saw a tour of Smith & Wesson's factory - there were about 3-4 people that saw a finished piece). There should be a QC check at final assembly and a test firing that may or may not be a separate person. Couple that with the fact that there are reports of this happening often and that's not a good sign...

I'm no gunsmith, but wouldn't it be easier to just unscrew the long import barrel and screw in and headspace a short snub-nose for sale barrel in the distributor's?

then why would the sights be an entire inch from the end of the barrel, doesn't make sense that little red insert on the front sight is added way after all machining is complete cause its plastic and would melt

You'd think every last firearm would get a cursory inspection/quick look-over.

Seems like Taurus just batch tests them. That's crazy.
