i'm thinking of cutting down one of my m4's to a 12.5 inch barrel. other than ATF stuff (already read up on that) what else is there to consider? Will the FSB need to be removed to enlargen the gas port? Change out the buffer? etc... I've read so much lately i'm losing track of what's what. I read, for instance, that 12.5 is a minium good length to maintain reliability, and that shorter will equal more problems. thoughts?

It's my understanding that most, if not all, 12.5's don't require port opening when cut from a 14.5, at least mine didn't.

I also understand that the 12.5" length is better suited to the carbine length gas system with regards to having a properly balanced rifle, gas-wise.

would a 12.5 project benefit from a NOVESKE KX3 FLASH HIDER? it's advertised as for 10.5' and shorter barrels. not sure what it would do for a longer barrel, if anything. Wife has green-lighted the project, now looking at specifics. Looking to have ADCO cut the barrel, any others i should look at?

i send all my barrels to adco for cutting/re-threading. They are good to go.

Ditch the KX3. no need for it.

Same here. GTG. They will enlarge if needed.
