is this a good tool for web building? Anything better that I might look at? If I understand correctly this is the successor to Front Page?

Expression is a good tool for building sites hosted on an IIS server (and is really designed for IE as the browser). There are certain extensions that are excellent for use on a Windows network Intranet.

I use Dreamweaver, but it is not for the faint of heart and is not inexpensive especially if you buy CS4 Suite with Photoshop, Illustrator and Flash.

What kind of site do you want to build (complexity, interactivity, levels, etc.) and what is your skill level with HTML, CSS, etc.?

If you are just looking for a tool to start with that is also free KompoZer (http://kompozer.net/) is a good tool.

I have zero skill level with HTML & don't even know your other acronyms at all, and frankly would like to keep it that way.

Does your hosting site provide any easy build tools? Many site like 1and1 provide templates where you literally fill in the blanks and it creates your site.

That's what I've been using and it's buggy as hell, and very limited/limiting.

Maybe download a template from HERE (http://www.oswd.org/), and try KompoZer before spending a lot of money on an editor. I just hate to see you spend money on a tool you cannot use.

Well it has a 60 day free trial. Can’t hurt to try.

What he said. Yeah you can do a lot more with Dreamweaver, but you'll pay out the wazoo for it. Expression is good enough for the majority of the non-web designer folks out there and it wont sock your pocketbook either. Im about to upgrade from Fontpage 03 and thats what I used to make my first website and manage my current website.
