I'm thinking about picking up a "BCM Standard 20" Government Profile Upper Receiver Group" (http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=BCM-URG-GOV-20&Show=ExtInfo). But I had a few questions first.

What does "Government Profile" mean?
Anybody know the weight of the upper in the condition as pictured? (No bolt carrier group, charging handle, hand guard, optics)
How much heavier would it be compared to a "BCM Standard 16" Mid Length Upper Receiver Group (http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/BCM-16-Mid-Length-Upper-Receiver-Group-p/bcm-urg-mid-16.htm)" in the same standards. (No bolt carrier group, charging handle, hand guard, optics)

I have a 20" HBAR right now, and the thing is beastly heavy. I'd like to know how much weight I'd be cutting if I went with the BCM 20".

"Gov't. Profile" means it has the same barrel contour as the M16A2 and M16A4, which has the barrel turned down underneath the handguards, which lighten the weapon vs. a heavy barrel which is not contoured under the handguards.

No idea on actual weights but gov profile just means it has the same profile barrel as "gov issue" weapons. Light under the handguard, and .750 from the FSB and forward. Its significantly lighter than an HBAR.

Theres not a huge weight difference between a 20" and 16" in gov profile.

You've already got a 20inch, why not a 16 midlength? Is it purely a weight issue? Just seems that the 16inch midlength would be a nice compliment to you hbar rather than having 2 20inchers.

Govt profile has the barrel milled down underneath the handguard to reduce the weight of the barrel:

Take your 20" HBAR handguards off and compare it to the bravo company picture, its going to look like the one on the top, its thick:

That 20" BCM is begging for a Night Force 2.5-10x32! I would put a Vltor fsb on it(pin it)with a Troy rear and have a basic do all rifle.

Thanks, that clears up a lot.

I like your taste.

I'm looking to replace the current 20" HBAR. Before I got the HBAR, I really underestimated how heavy it really is. Now that more 20" uppers are available, I want to get a new one. And I already got a STAG and BCM 16" midlengths.

Why not have your barrel recountoured by ADCO?

FWIW I saw a nib BCM 20" upper on calsguns.net for sale for <$400
