I have a P2000 sa/da in .40. I'll use it for carry when I can and just enjoy the gun in general. I'm wanting a second handgun. I am saving for a March purchase. I was thinking I'd either buy a full sized .45 polymer gun for the nightstand, the range and SHTF.
I'm looking at the HK45 (not sure if I'd go sa/da or LEM yet) and the M&P45. My hands are small and 10 rds works in NY. Both seem similar in size. Price difference is large but if I end up really liking the HK, its no big deal.
Of the guns, which gun would you guys point me toward and why?

There are a number of threads comparing those two guns already here at M4C. A quick search should turn up lots of good information.

Without getting into all the little details, it will basically come down to the action. If you want a SFA gun, the M&P45 is the way to go. If you want a TDA gun like your P2000, the HK45 is the obvious winner.

I have only been able to handle one but I really like the size of the 4" M&P. Very similar to a commander framed 1911.

The sticky at the top of the forum has most of the 45 pistol threads in it:

Just curious, why do you want to go away from the .40?

I'm big on calibre standardisation, for ease in supplies. Right now I can go anywhere and get .40, but finding .45 in anything other than Blazer Aluminum is an exercise in futility.

After 8 years of nothing but .45 Autos, I'm kicking myself for not choosing 9 or .40.

It's gotten, for me, to the point where affording to shoot isn't the issue; resupply of ammo is a bitch.

My alternative is to shoot up my stockpile, but at this point I don't believe I could replace it.

:confused:

I'm not getting rid of .40. I'd get a full sized .40. A 15 rd gun with 10 rd mags makes me feel retarded. I'd be interested in a .40 P30 or P30L or MP.40. Losing 2 rds in my P2000 is ok but 5 in a full sized gun sucks. What's SFA and TDA Todd?

SFA = Striker Fired Action

TDA = Traditional Double Action

David Thomas, I'm selling that to pay off some debts. I'm not concerned about losing it since I'll replace it someday. I want something else.

Totally understandable. The reason I chose .45 was during the ban. If I was stuck with 10, I saw no reason NOT to go with the .45.

I still have 10-rounders from my first USP floating around somewhere.

Back on topic: Go with the HK45.

Thanks NavigatingCollapse. Both guns seem very reliable, ergonomic, accurate and well engineered. If I weren't in a ban state, I'd probably go right for a P30L in 9 or .40 but...

The ban-state is a total game changer.

If I hadn't already had a USP, I would have opted for the HK45; I've still got one on the radar, but I'm trying to prissy-up my 1911 before I move into further handgun turf.

Good luck in the quest.
