here are a few pics of some of my favorite ARs/SRs

My KAC SR15 w/ KAC triple tap brake and Swaro z6i 1-6x EE glass
(crazy glass has enough eye relief that i can deploy my rear BUIS)
this is easily my favorite AR at the moment

My old 3gun carbine (4 lbs)
17" carbon fiber barrel, titanium comp, carbon fiber upper/lower receivers, aluminum bolt carrier, JP trigger, clark custom carbon fiber float tube that i cut down
got around 1500 rnds on it but i only shoot it in matches and 1 day at a carbine class. i have the adjustable gas block tuned where it doesn't hold the bolt open on last round, but i've never had a stoppage in a match/class

My new 3gun carbine (ok this one isn't dirty since i'm not finished building yet)
I really love the magpul foliage green duracoat, but it looks awful with my l33t camera skillz
18" compass lake barrel w/custom profile, colt m4 upper, tac innovations lower, white oak LPK, no trigger yet but thinking i'll try the new wilson combat non-adjustable
http://img706.imageshack.us/img706/2672/fgguna.jpg

My 1986 era full-auto Essential Arms lower with Bushmaster conversion, 12" carbon fiber barrel (rock creek blank), KAC TT brake, micro T1 and Larue po-boy magnifier, geissele SSF trigger
I've shot this in several matches as well (semi only, obviously).
also have a dedicated 22lr upper with 8" barrel and YHM mite suppressor. it's unbelievably fun.

Noveske Magpul Limited Edition (from the first batch) with NF 1-4x
shot this in a few matches. i really like the way it handles. feels lighter than it looks, but the bolt won't hold open, which is very frustrating considering what i paid for it. so it stays in the safe until i take a notion to work on it.

My RRA NM rebarreled by white oak. i legged out this year with this gun.
(when you've got so much tape from camp perry and regionals, that you've got to drop your trigger guard to move the trigger, it makes you feel like you've accomplished something)

an oldie-but-goodie. pushing 20k rnds on this old friend. RRA lower, CMT upper, denny's guns recon barrel, Smith/fisher enterprises can, RRA 2-stage trigger, YHM forearm, M93b stock
http://img156.imageshack.us/img156/276/rracmta.jpg

saving the best for last, SR25 with KAC suppressor, 24" barrel, geissele SSA trigger, note the new magpul magazine

never seen a carbon fiber barrel before... interesting.

the CF barrels are VERY light and cool quickly. they are as accurate as the blank they were made from (in my case, rock creek's stainless steel, cut rifled) and they are pricey as balls.

however, the guy who owns the patent on them took my money for my 3rd order over a year ago and hasn't returned my calls in about 8 months. as you can imagine, i don't recommend him anymore though you may find 2 yr old posts from me a bit more glowing.

got my first one from http://www.operationparts.com/KAC_KNIGHTS_ARMAMENT_SR15_PDW_MUZZLE_BREAK_INCONEL_p/25683.htm
but they're out of stock now. I think i got my second one from lawman's but i'm not positive. i'd check there in any event

"I have many leather-bound books and my apartment smells of rich mahogany."

Nice collection. Can you tell us more about the carbon fiber barrels? Better accuracy, how is balance with the reduced weight, durability....???

heh, yeah, i couldn't figure out if the logos were upside down or if i was mounting it backwards. i am planning to add a KAC NT4 can as soon as i can, so i was more concerned about it being right-side-up than the logos, but i dunno. maybe i screwed both up. all the ones i've seen in pictures have the divot on the bottom

the swaro z6i 1-6 EE is hands-down the best AR optic i've ever played with. the extended eye relief is amazing. you can put your head anywhere on the stock and get a picture. the size of the image is the most amazing thing. the ocular lens is enormous. reticle isn't daylight-bright though and the switch is in a very convenient position, so it's really easy to turn on, but... it catches on stuff all the time and turns itself on. it's pretty heavy. i wish i could get it with a mil reticle and turrets like the NF 1-4x has. i'll let you know how sturdy it is when i manage to break it :) I bought it from samplelist several months ago for $1300ish because it had some light ring marks on it.

balance on the carbon fiber barrels is quite nice; puts all the weight in the rear of the gun. the center of gravity on that blue gun is right about on the trigger. durability is like any other premium stainless-steel barrel. accuracy: these aren't benchrest guns... but when zeroing from prone using mag as a monopod, i keep about a 1" 5-shot group at 50 yrds.

That is fairly close to other's I have PINGED regarding it.

Thanks for the feedback.

How do you like the Fisher Can ?

TIA

you're not by any chance a sametime user, eh?

umm.... the fisher can is a brick. seriously, extremely solid and feels like it when hung off the end of a 16" barrel. sound reduction is good (average). i thought the "quick attach" mechanism was really cool until i attempted to remove the can after firing. i eventually pounded it off the end of the gun with a hammer. automotive anti-seize and a rubber mallet are generally sufficient to remove it now. i really like that it attaches to the smith flash hider and it looks cool, but i think just about everybody makes a better can, unless the most important feature to you is the ability to drive concrete nails

You've got some pretty nice shootin irons there Homey.

.....when you've got so much tape from camp perry and regionals, that you've got to drop your trigger guard to move the trigger....

Can you 'splain this to me?

taliv

wow, old thread...

Tim, when you shoot EIC or regional or national matches, CMP and the NRA weigh your trigger. iirc service rifle has to be 4.5 lbs or heavier. Rules still apply at club-level 'approved' matches but it's pretty rare that anyone bothers to weigh them.

if it makes weight, they put a piece of colored or printed tape on your trigger guard so everyone can see that your rifle has been weighed. most folks remove the tape after the match, but i just let it build up out of laziness at first. now the trigger drags on the tape and i have to drop the trigger guard to shoot. You can see some red tape, yellow tape and green tape in the picture.
