View Full Version : New Sig 516 - Mag well and PMAGS?

I just got done reviewing my freebie American Rifleman mag and noticed the new Sig 516 5.56 carbine. I'm thinking about a piston driven AR so I was reading this kind of closely. Does anyone else think the mag well on these isn't going to take a PMAG?

An early-on S&W M&P15 was missing a bevel in the exact same, forward location and wouldn't take PMAGS until I filed one into the lower myself.

They want you to buy Sig's crappy plastic imitations, not Magpul's good ones. :D

I read the same article. The lower looks like a Sun Devil lower to me. I don't know if that's any help... maybe somebody has some experience with P-Mags in Sun Devil lowers.

If it is indeed a SunDevil the P-Mags will work,, I have 2 SunDevils and the P-Mags work fine,,,

Ditto - I had to sand some early PMags to make them drop free, but newer ones have been fine.

Sun Devil? What? SIG's not forging and machining these in Switzerland?

Do tell.

Probably the same for Ruger, I don't see either buying into the massive investment to hot drop forge platters when they can shop them out.

All said and done it may be the only influence for piston system commonality among the various vendors. Otherwise it's another single source with attendant headaches buying parts.

Spare BCG's aren't going to be laying around for all these, or replacement pistons.

The American Rifleman reviewers made note that the POF Para would get hot at the piston chamber, but never mentioned if the SIG did. I speculate one had a lot more rounds through it, which highlights the very individual protocols each tester probably used.

Somebody needs to do a piston roundup and shootout, hmmm?

+1.

Really, I think the only rifles that would be anywhere close to each other in the end would be the HK 416, FN SCAR-L, and Remington ACR.
