View Full Version : Best .22lr upper?
I am thinking of going with a .22 cal M4 type upper for some cheap training. Has anyone used the Spikes or Tactical solutions upper?

TACSOL, but with that said, the S&W 15-22 beats all of them.

Is the M&P as accurate and reliable as the TACSOL? If I decide to have you build me a 22 upper for my SBR could you get a 10 or 11 inch barrel?

Great info. Thanks.
I built my dedicated .22 LR AR w/ a Tactical Solutions AR22 M4 upper ($400 at a local guns show w/ two BD mags). I looked at a Spikes upper, but I didn't like that fact that they engraved their name in big white letters on the side of the upper (cheesy looking). I also looked at the M&P 15-22, but I did not like the plastic upper & lower and the fact that it did not come w/ a flash hider (it also felt like a toy).

The TACSOL is most likely more accurate (slightly), but the S&W is more reliable.
You can form 1 the lower and we can chop and thread the barrel.

I've got a Spike's and it works fine for plinking. Loading the mags is a long drawn out process. Unlike UN-loading them. ;) It jams a little too frequently these days but it may be that I haven't cleaned it after ~200 rounds or maybe I'm not keeping it lubed enough. Either way, I'm thinking of selling it and getting something with a little more dwell time between shots. (Read: bolt action or SAA!)

I really did not want to pay the tax again for a .22lr. I may just do a full length M&P. I know the TACSOL is like a 14.5 because the barrel goes back so far in the receiver. Do you think the TACSOL is reliable enough for training?

Compared to the S&W? No, it is not reliable enough for me. YMMV.

Spikes gets my vote...but then again many more producers now.
